It is being widely reported that the Clips are on record with being good to go on an SnT for Jaric. Cavs are also widely reported to be interested in Jaric. So, Question #1 - with Rox contract situation why are they not (apparently) showing any interest? Question #2 - Since the Cavs are apparently a few bucks short in offering Jaric a contract knocking out the Clips. Larry Brown likes Snow, can not possibly like his roster. So, how about Mooch for Snow, freeing @ 1.25mil for Cavs...then packaging Snow/Spoon (as LB proved, you can go home again) for Tim Thomas. Rox get a player in last year of contract for two in last year who are not players. Knicks get Snow, and a smaller expiring contract to market.
I bought up Jaric about a week ago and got booed out of the GARM, well kinda. But yea, I'd do it in the right deal. Maybe a three way deal with the Clipps and Clev.
I'd settle for a clue why there is no (apparent) attempt, at the very least, to effect something which would cleanly vacate a couple of vacant expiring contracts to get someone who can play (ie TThomas).
The only clue I could imagine is that we really want Stoudamire, and we don't want to foil our attempt at getting him by having word out that we are trying to get Jaric. That being said, I would love to see Jaric on the Rockets.
considering that DS has better averages, and played in more games last season than jaric has in two seasons... I guess thats a good idea ! xomox saz... "former rookie of the year, played in the western conference finals, highly regarded by the fanchise player. F*ck no, I want a off-injured Euro who almost lost his starting spot to a high schooler"
chill out man. i dont care what damon formerly was. cuz formerly doesnt help us in the now. we got maybe 1 or 2 good seasons with damon. maybe. the oldest team in the league will never win a championship. and i dont want my team to be the oldest team in the league again.
What about this trade. Rocks trade Juwan Howard 6,000,000 1st round LAC trade Chris Wilcox 2,800,000 Marko Jaric 3,500,000 sign and trade The Rocks get a very good SG and gifted PF in his last year. The LAC get a vet. PF my ret. soon becouse of the status of his health. get a 1st round , and dont lose a player without some thing in return.
Question 1: What kind of cap situation are we exactly in? We only have the LLE which isn't enough for anybody good. Question 2: The Cavs aren't in any kind of cap trouble, I don't see them dumping Snow for nothing when they could atleast get something decent in return.

Looks like Jaric isn't getting a high enough offer on the free market that the Clippers would not match. http://www.latimes.com/sports/baske...,1,4776392.story?coll=la-headlines-sports-nba Clippers Are Likely to Keep Jaric The restricted free-agent guard wants to leave L.A. in a sign-and-trade deal, but that desire, Baylor says, 'doesn't make any difference.' By Jerry Crowe, Times Staff Writer Whether he likes it or not, Marko Jaric will be back playing for the Clippers next season, the club strongly suggested Wednesday. General Manager Elgin Baylor, speaking to reporters after a Beverly Hills news conference to formally announce the signing of free agent Cuttino Mobley, said that Jaric's stated preference to leave "doesn't make any difference." Echoing Baylor's comments, Coach Mike Dunleavy said, "The bottom line is, whether a player wanted to be here or didn't want to be here, I don't necessarily pay a whole lot of attention to that, particularly when a guy's a free agent. There's a lot of verbiage that goes on that's prompted and staged. You just have to know your people. I expect to have Marko back, and I don't see any issues for him." Jaric, a 6-foot-7 guard, is a restricted free agent, meaning that the Clippers hold the right to match any offer made to him by another NBA team. His agent, Bill Duffy, has stated repeatedly that Jaric, penciled in as a backup after two seasons as a starter, would like to leave. Jaric visited last week with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Denver Nuggets, and on Tuesday his agent said that the Serb's preference was "to be elsewhere because he thinks he has a better opportunity to play point guard, which is important to him." Said Baylor: "He hasn't said that to me yet. But it doesn't make any difference, because a lot of players have said that and they've come back. It's only a question of how he plays. If he comes back and he plays, it doesn't matter." And Dunleavy, who has not wavered in saying he wants him back, said he saw Jaric at dinner last week and, "He didn't tell me he didn't want to be here." Duffy, who suggested Tuesday that a sign-and-trade deal "would be best for all parties," said he hoped to meet with the Clippers before the end of the week to clarify Jaric's position. He expressed disappointment in the club's stance. "You would think," the agent said late Wednesday, "that you'd want to hire somebody that wants to be there." ------------------ Why not offer them this sign-and-trade deal: Mike James (3.41M) + Charlie Ward (1.87M) for Marko Jaric (3-year deal with 4th year player option starting at 4.6M to 5M) Why would the Clippers do this: Jaric does not want to be there. There is not much use for them having an unmotivated player around. Mike James is a pretty good PG/SG who can add some sorely needed firepower to their team. Ward's contract comes off the books after this year. They do not even have enough players signed so far. Why would the Rockets do this: One concern with the Rockets' backcourt is height. Jaric is one of the tallest point guards in the league at 6'7 and can play three positions. He also has a good three-point shot, is a good passer and gets lots of steals. Mike James is more athletic and quicker, but we added Head to take care of athleticism in the backcourt. James and Head might turn out to be somewhat redundant. Also, James has already said that he wants to opt out after this season, so he will be looking for a much larger contract after this season. If we trade him now, we can still get some nice value back that we would lock up for two seasons more (we would just lose James after this season). We would probably need to include Ward in order to reach a level of salary that would be acceptable to Jaric. PG: Jaric, Sura, (maybe van Exel (Vet Min)) SG: maybe Derek Anderson (Vet Min), Wesley, Head SF: T-Mac, Bowen PF: Swift, Howard C: Ming, Deke We can still make more moves, but I would prefer this backcourt to the one we currently have, with a lot of very short guys.
Yeah, if the Rockets offered a first rounder in a sign and trade---something that netted Jaric an MLE-type contract; he is worth that---maybe the Clips would bite. But I wonder if Van Grumpy would want Jaric. When Mirsad Turkcan wound up on the Knicks (did he make it past training camp?), Van Gundy let him have it. Turkcan was saying that he should start at the 3. "What about him?" asked VG, pointing at Grammamma (what was that player's name? the one who got into a massive beeyotch-fight with Alonzo?) "Him not 3. He '4'," answered Turkcan. "You '3', me fired," said VG. Not to mention Boki being sent packing last year. Maybe VG doesn't care for Euro players. Not enough evidence, but....no D? No play.
I like Jaric but I'm not sold on his ability to stay healthy. Although having players like Ward, Moochie, and Baker on payroll yet inactive on the court is a negative for this coming season, I have to look beyond that and tell myself once their contracts expire of the books, what can we get next year in terms of quality players? Younger more athletic and productive players come at a cost, one that can be afforded if we wait one more year. The terrific trio of Yao-TMac-Swift is only 25 yrs of age and I think they will hold up just fine this year. Next year should be phenominal if we have the patience to wait. Problem with people nowadays is everyone wants instant gratification.
Even after those contracts come off the books, the money is going to be replaced with Yao's and others... we are not suddenly going to have an abundance of cap space just because those guys will be gone. The only way we get anything is to trade them while their contracts are valuable to other teams who WILL be under the cap after this coming season, or else we are going to have to draft someone good. We're just not going to have anything to lure free agents other than the MLE, or a S&T.
Jaris is averaging 1.6 steals per game throughout his career and shot 37% from 3 last season. The times I have seen him play, he is an under-rated passer, pretty quick bringing the ball up on a fastbreak and makes pretty good decisions. Plus, the guy is 6'7 at the PG position. I think he would be a great fit. He may not be the greatest one-on-one defender, but he makes up for alot of it by playing the passing lanes and getting turnovers and JVG's team defensive philosophy would benefit him. The only negative I could see if we would sign him (S&T) to a contract approaching the MLE for 4-5 years and he wouldn't stay healthy enough to make him worth that money. Bottomline: He is a nice passer, good shooter getting better, still young at 26 where he could grow with this team, and has the height to not only have an advantage at the PG position but could easily move to the 2 or 3 in certain lineups or matchups. I think he gets a bad rap because he is another 'Euro-player' but, when healthy, the man can play.
Good point there. Maybe the rockets are holding on to those expiring contracts in anticipation that a lot of that money will go to Yao. Which in that case it also legitimizes the reason for keeping those contracts.
