I know CD has said one of the things he'd like to do this summer was to lock Yao into a long term contract, most likley max contract. My question is do you think it will be possible this summer or will Yao wait it out another year?

wait for another year? I dont think CD likes Drama. Seattle or Lakers will do anything to lure Yao, like by signing Ye Li, sending female companions, promising off days to shoot comercials, useyour imagination. :D

It's high time to extend his contract.

I assume they are waiting for the CBA to be finalized and for Yao to come back to the country. I don't expect either party to want to wait.

They better...getting this done will be the No. 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 priority for this franchise.

There is no way it's gonna drag out till the end of the year. It will be done before the season starts and he will be a Rocket for as long as they can extend the contract.

Maybe CD can convince Yao to accept an offer at 30% discount of a max so that the team can use the extra cash on a stud 2.

Didn't Yao say he wanted what every player wants a BIG contract. I can swear I read it in the forum a few months back. I think it was a Chinese artical translated. Also it said he wanted to re-sign w/ us. I really dont know how much truth was in the artical it self.

I thought that he couldn't extend his contract until the fall. Thats also why Stoudamire was waiting for. I expect both of them to get their contracts done with max deals sometime from starting training camp until preseason ends.

My big question is what will the Lakers new strategy be once Amare and Yao are both locked up long term. Cap space for 2007 will mean nothing unless they are after Mike Dunlavy Jr. The funny thing is in the last year of that 3 year deal the gave Kwame he will prolly blow up and end up costing them more than if they just went long term now.

Yao has said that he wants to sign with the Rockets, but I do believe he expects a max contract. If the Rockets don't give him one (which they will), SOMEBODY will give Yao a max deal. Asking Yao to take less money when of course no one would DARE tell T-Mac to take less cash would been seen as a bit of an insult by Ming, and rightfully so.

If you recall, it was only a minor insult that caused Yao to rescind his loyalty to Nike. I don't think the Rockets are going to play any games. I think they're going to offer Yao the max, lock him up for years, and move on.

Yeah, I recall the story was like Nike was trying to low-ball Yao and he got upset and decided to sign with Reebok even though Nike later offered a much bigger contract than Reebok did.

Does the team have enough cap space to max out Yao? Next summer for sure, but now?

The cap won't apply because of the Bird Rights. Since we drafted him we have the ability to sign him to the most money even though we might not have it in the cap room.

It's silly to even discuss anything but a max contract.

They don't need cap space to max out Yao. The rockets have his bird rights. Besides, he's already signed for this year so his extension doesn't even kick in until next summer.

Yao had mentioned before the only other team he'll likely to played for is the Lakers. b/c of the large Asian population and for traveling's sake, the West Coast is closer to Asia... believe it or not, that means a lot.

I need to see a link to this quote before I'll believe it. Yao mentioned he liked the city of Chicago, but that was before he was drafted.

Besides Yao has mentioned on numerous occasions that big Asian populations sort of freak him out a bit because of the extra attention.

And how can ease of traveling to China make a difference if he only takes one flight over there a year.

Sorry, no link since I was told by someone.

Yao does tend to shy away from the crowd, but we have to understand he's not here by himself, the large Asian population is more convient for his family; and that's also where the ease of traveling comes in, it's easier not only for himself, but also for his family members, mom, dad, and of course, his girl...
