Had a problem with sending/receiving email. My ISP (RoadRunner) said everything with them checked out okay. It was suggested that my Outlook Express files might be corrupted and RR suggested that I download the newest version, so I did. It didn't solve my problem and created a new one on a grander scale.

Now I've lost my personal email folders-- some 200 or so filled with usernames and passwords et cetera-- which were not re-created when my address book was.

Anyone know how to recover and restore those?

    It's probably not all lost.

    If you have Win 95/98/ME, then go to C:\Windows\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook Express\...

(the bold I know is the exact path, after that it's foggy - I'm on NT 4 here at work. But I know it looks something like "Microsoft/Outlook Express" or "Identities/712634574057345034765947")

Your old folders should be in one of the folders named after the wacked-out registry key for your identity, and have a "DBX" extension. I suppose it'd be easiest to do a search on FOLDERNAME.DBX from the Start Menu.

In order to import them back into Outlook Express, choose File->Import...->Messages, and browse to that directory where you found your message folders.

I've had so many problems with Outlook Express identities lately, else I wouldn't have known [IMG]

    Good luck!

I've done this too many times. Try deleting the "new" outlook from your
Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove programs. The old one will come back up. This has mysteriously worked for me. Anyhow, what have ya got to lose?
Funny I had that stupid server problem with RR a few weeks back and thought it was my outlook, ended up doing all kinds of crap to the registry and completely getting rid of my old outlook. It was actually RR! DAOOOH!

I had email problems with RR a couple of weeks back also. I knew it was their problem because I have Outlook Express configured to check hotmail via POP3 as well, and that was working fine. Sounds like the screwed you.
