I am pretty sure he is making decent money in Europe. Nobody thought he was better than Damon and noone thought he was NBA material. Good college and good international player, I am sure he is better at basketball than 99.9% of Clutchcity fans.
I don't understand what everyone's facination with Sura is He's either hurt, or afraid to shoot, or always getting beat by his man. He's not even a real PG, he's a 2 with no hops and no shot!! I think it would be a mistake to have Stoud sign for the LLE if we still have Sura and James, not to mention Moochie and Ward. We don't need 5 PG's. Sura, IMO, would be the odd man out if Portland would be willing to take him, that is. Yes, he can rebound because he's not afraid of getting hit and see's the apparent glaring hole in our frontline for a rebounder, but other than that he's as tradeable as Wesley or Moochie, IMO. Yes he helped our team in the beginning of the season when he came back from an injury before the season even had started, but that was because Ward and Lue were HORRIBLE. With the arrival of James, that made Sura expendable. I'd trade Sura for Stoudamire in a heartbeat. Most likely, Head will play the 2 this season due to personel reasons and will be alot more effective, especially with Stoud/James and Tracy all able to set each other up from the perimeter. If Portland would take him, this would also allow us to sign a 2/3 like Demarr. I still like Sura, but he is getting older and is often left on the perimeter because of his inability to shot.
i dont know about "nobody" thinking he was NBA material....... i remember all the hype he was getting during his freshmen year at arizona, tv heads were saying he was better than d.stoud.......and he was also considered a first round pick after his 1st year in arizona when he was named National Freshmen of the Year
Most of us like Sura because of what happened when he joined our team. Our record with him as a healthy starter was impressive. He's not a typical PG but he's a very solid player. The only time he "hurt" us last year was when he was injured. You may have a point he's getting too much credit for our run of success after the poor start. After all, he did replace Charlie Ward and Tyronne Lue. Almost anyone would have been a big upgrade. You can argue that adding Wesley, subtracting Jim Jackson and moving T-Mac to SF from SG had a lot to do with our success. Most of us still give Sura his due because the man gives it his all, is unselfish, brought us much needed toughness & rebounding last year and fits in the lockerroom very well. We should keep him this year. But, IMO, we still need to replace him as a starter.
Gardner was a mature kid, so he came in and was immediately a very solid college basketball player. Maybe not everyone, I will say anyone who watched him at any length new he was a prototypical good college PG but long shot for the NBA prospect. Jefferson, and to a lesser extent Arenas (who I was saying would be a steal, that he was the best player on that team--Jefferson included--and had incredible explosiveness), were clearly the studs on Gardner's teams. Loren Wood's was a stub too, when he was healthy and his head was on right.
I think we should try to get Jason Williams if Damon Stoudamire doesnt work out... here`s why: 1. Nash theory : every team he has been on has been one of the top tier teams in terms of scoring. ( I know... only Dallas and Phoenix) but still numbers dont lie. So... Jason Williams teams has also been high scoring teams. ( Kings and Memphis ) You can say it is their style of play, ok then why not try to score more, while still keeping a defensive JVG mentally and attitude. 2. Jason Williams showed a lot of improvement when playing for Hubie. The stats dont lie, and anybody that watched him play for the Kings and early Memphis days will tell you that he played like a true PG and became one of the best assist / TO ratio PG in the league. He stills jacks up 3`s and turns the ball over on stupid flashy Pistol Pete wannabe passes but if we can get him to reduce those idiotic plays, then we got ourselves a PG who can run a high scoring team, handle the rock, wont turn the ball over, and help rotate the ball better. 3. If Memphis would take on our TE and an expiring contract, and maybe a 2nd rounder or 2, they aren`t really losing much, and they want to get rid of him anyways, and I think Stromile and JW play well. 4. Just a thought, in this hot a$$ summer day... offseason, what a drag.
You haven't watched Memphis much lately (or really ever?), have you? They were the 8th worst scoring team in the league - scored fewer points per game than us. They were right behind us in points allowed (4th). In fact, Memphis has never been a particularly high octane offense with Williams - their best was 2002-2003 when they scored 97.5 ppg (and gave up over 100) Doesn't work like that.
