i guess im alrite with bowen coming back but i want the signings to get underway. I wont rest easy till we have swift on paper and barry and deke. Now that the moratorium is extended to monday or tuesday i begin to wonder what they're doing. 1.They can t make up their minds wether to dot the t's and cross the i's or vice versa 2.The players and nba really havent concluded on anything and they needed to avoid a lock out for saving face 3.Monkeys are writing the CBA 4.they couldnt find a pen 5.they have finished the CBA but when celebrating they accidently used it to roll up some j's
I know, I know, I know. Bowen is the kind of guy JVG wants for exactly what happened in the Dallas series. Who cares if he doesn't sniff the court 90% of the time but when you can use him to chase & harass the other team's best forward, it doesn't matter if he can't dribble with his head up, can't catch a pass, contributes absolutely nothing offensively and looks lost on the court---he's a scrapper that knows only one thing: defense. I'm not surprised by the move, just by the timing more or less---it's so early in the offseason to be signing a replacable 12th man like Bowen. I'm also not against it either. Bowen is the kind of situational guy you need. All you can do is accept, embrace and support.
I really don't get this move, offense has a whole lot more room for improvement. I'd rather given Glover or Baxter or another more offensive player a shot. Probably prefer Padget too. I am very surprised, I didn't think there was a roster spot for him. With Spoon, Baker, Mooch and Ward taking up 4 of the 15 active/inactive spots I thinking this is bad news for Glover and Baxter, at best one makes the team, probably both don't. Couple of other thoughts too. I am thinking we probably wave a player, probably with the lux tax thing--Spoon, Baker, Mooch. Or could we be doing a two for one trade. Just seems way to early to give up a roster spot for such a limited player. I hope this foreshadows a 2-1 trade or waiving some deadweight contracts--not the statas quo.
Roster spots are filling up. I believe that under the new CBA teams will be getting rid of the IR and expand the active players number from 12 to 14. If we only have 14 spots I can only guess that this means CD doesn't believe that he will be able to sign or trade for a backup SF, so he brings back bowen. deke should be next. with all the guards on our team JB might be the last one. yao-baker stro-Jho-spoon tmac-bowen wesley-head-ward sura-james-moochie 13 spots are taken already. I would like to see Deke, JB, and baxter on this team. seems like there will be a 2-for-1 deal. on top of that, i would bet that moochie gets cut.
just another thought....... maybe deke and JB already told the rockets that they will return if asked. since we know those two will be back, why not sign a guy that might accept a minimum contract with another team?
a lot of you guys are real harsh to a guy that played well for us last year. bad karma. he did what was expected of him (hustle, play good d, provide energy) and every team needs someone like that.
No kidding, what's with the Bowen hate? The guy knows his job and does it, and he does it cheap. I could see some anger if we re-signed, say, Vin Baker, but this is a guy that actually contributes. As for Baxter and Glover, they've been bouncing around the summer leagues for years instead of playing in the NBA. Don't get your hopes up, guys.
maybe this means that spoon and/or baker is gonna be shipped out. there wouldn't be a point of resigning bowen when we have howard possibly coming back and we're in line to get Swift. We'll probably ship Spoon/Baker out to get Mighty Mouse.
moochie is probabaly going to be cut outright Baker & spoon are mid season trade bait. Spoon is finished, but if I was CD I would be telling Baker's agent that he is NOT going to play this year for the rockets... since Vinny keeps saying he has some game left, maybe then his agent will help get a trade that helps the rockets
In that case, I don't hear any violins playing in all the Wesley-Sura-James bashing threads out there. Last I checked they played their hearts out and in Sura's case, risked further injury.
he saved our asses in the playoffs. quit raggin on the guy. the league could use more ryan bowens. its not like we just signed mo taylor to a long term deal.
Bowen earned a spot on this team, he isn't Jordan, but I'd rather see him on the court than Ward, Mooch, Baker, or Spoon. I also think we should bring back Padgett. That guy is money off the bench, he is good insurance if Howard goes down.
We have Swift now, so I don't think this insurance is needed. Swift/Howard is a pretty solid rotation and Bowen can also play the 3rd string PF role.
You always need a guy like Bowen in your team. He can hustle and play tight D. DIDN'T YOU GUYS SEE HIM MAKE SO MANY JUMPERS IN THE PLAYOFFS. HE WAS ON FIRE. I THINK HE MADE EVERY SINGLE OPEN SHOTS, AND WAS PLAYING NICE DEFENSE ON DIRK. IM GLAD WE GOT HIM.
Guys, You are being very hard on Bowen. He is good for 6 fouls, passing a towel to T-Mac and making the handoffs of gaterade to his the players that get out on the floor. All for around three fitty. If Bowen can do the goofy Madsen dance, it will be priceless!
Im not trying to diss the guy but this is not a move that makes me happy this early in the offseason. Unless they are planning to use him in a sign and trade. Possibly Portland or Memphis? I just dont think if you really are planning to keep this guy you sign him before you really see whats going to be out there for you. Especially with the new amnesty clause, there is no telling what kind of role players will be available for "dirt" cheap. I thank Ryan Bowen for a "stepping-up" performance in the series with Dallas but I hope this is a move for a trade.
