hey everybody, i bought a mp3 player(pretty cheap one) and i want to put some songs from my cd's on it, but that is not possible, because these cd files are not mp3 files, i know there are some programs where i can put these cd files on my pc as a mp3 file. Does anybody know a free one? Thanks
I believe iTunes does that. I use Musicmatch Jukebox 8.0 myself, just because I'm obsessive about using programs that are easiest on system resources, but it really doesn't matter. I'm pretty sure a lot of free programs can do that.
A somewhat related question - I am looking for a program which converts purchases itunes music into .mp3 format, so that I can use my non-apple MP3 player to play my files. Any advice? Thanks.
I'm sorry, I guarantee you'll feel stupid when I tell you this... but iTunes will do that for you (unless I'm somehow misunderstanding you). Don't you hate it when the answer is sitting right under your nose? Get the latest version of iTunes. Then, go up to Edit -> Preferences -> Importing. Then open the "Import Using:" dropbox, and pick "MP3 Encoder" (what you're doing here is basically setting your preferred audio format). Then use "Setting" to select your quality (I use 160, but whatever). Once that's done, simply drag whatever file you want to convert into an MP3 into your library, right-click it, and select "Convert Selection to MP3." Your file will still exist wherever you had it in its original format, and your new MP3 version will be in your iTunes folder (which you can set the location for yourself... Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced). Easy, huh?
Too easy, actually...it doesn't let me do it because the file is protected. Thanks anyway, though... Basically, I am looking for something that will help me crack the DRM so that I can convert the protected files to an unprotected MP3 .
In that case, simply use iTunes to create a CD and from there, you can save the files into an MP3 format.
Thanks, Swoly-D and No Worries...somehow, I had missed the last response in that thread. Trying it out now...
Ok maybe a stupid question, but can i copy the mp3 files from the Musicmatch jukebox, in a different folder on my pc? Thanks(and yes i do feel stupid )
i use a program called m.k.w. audio comprssor. it turns wave files into mp3's. http://www.etree.org/mkw.html i find it very useful.
Here are some of my links for rippers and codecs: http://del.icio.us/bnwest/ripper http://del.icio.us/bnwest/codec dBpowerAMP is god-like in its capabilities. Here is a list of codecs it supports: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codec-central.htm
I don't know how "legal" it is, but you know how you can listen to other people's music on iTunes if you're on the same network or in the same building? Well you can listen, but can't save on your computer (right?). A friend of mine mentioned OurTunes...apparently it copies those files to your computer, but I've never used it. Anyone ever tried it?
That's what I do in order to play the songs I've purchased from iTunes on my Rio Nitrus. You're going to lose some quality whether you do it this way or find a way to convert the file itself to MP3. This just seems easiest to me.
For some reason this program doesn't work(or better i'm doing something wrong), I have installed it. But then i cannot get it to turn the wav files into MP3 files. Yoiu just drag it opn the program, and hold ctrl?
are you holding down control AS you drop the wave file into the box? the only other thing i can think of that initially gave me trouble was where the compressed audio file ends up. if you click on 'options' and than 'file options' you can tell it where you want to save the compressed audio file on your computer (desktop, music folder, ect). let me know if this helps or not.
I wasn't worried... I knew you'd get it. You get me one iTunes listener in that jury and you're gonna walk outta here a rich man... Absolutely True. It's LEGAL because you're only sharing LISTENING to it, not files, although you cannot copy their music to your hard drive. Loook for the Sharing tab in the Preferences in iTunes. It explains itself.
