Did anyone else watch this fight? Marco Antonio Barrera went punch-for-punch with Hamed and easily won this bout. It was an awesome fight. Hamed was stunned several times by Barrera jabs but never fell to the apron. Barrera was not hurt one single time the whole bout and he deserved to be the new champion. It was nice to see that Hamed was in good spirits after his defeat. I was expecting him to be very upset. Comments on the fight? ------------------
I didn't see the fight but Barrera is a bad ass mofo. Last year he had a fight with Erik Morales and it was hands down the greatest fight I've ever seen. Literally 12 rounds of pounding the hell out of each other. Barrera lost the decision in that fight but he was majorly robbed. I'm glad Naseem got it handed to him. He's way too cocky. ------------------ The ox is slow but the Earth is patient.
I didn't see the fight either but I'm suprised Hamed looked as humble and seemed such a good sport after the fight with as arrogant as he is... ------------------ Whatever you want to do, you have to do something else first. [This message has been edited by mr_oily (edited April 08, 2001).]
I was just going to post this countingcrow. I saw the fight with a bunch friends last night, and it was definately entertaining. The Prince, as cocky and arrogant as he is, has that certain flair and flamboyance that is simply fun to watch and can't help but remind you of Muhammad Ali. Although I was peed off that it took so long to start the damn fight, the wait was actually worth it. I thought the entrance interesting and not supringsly flashy. And as a Muslim, it nearly brought a tear to my eye when he came on with the powerful words "Allahu Akbar" vibrating through the MGM Grand, and Hamed proclaiming his strong faith before the fight. As for the fight itself, I think the Prince simply underestimated Barrera. The Mexican was truly a warrior, and had an answer for everything Naseem put up. It was certainly fascinating seeing two dominating fighters with distinctly different styles battling it out in 12 rounds. Anyone else find it very odd how the Prince Naseem leaves his gloves away from the body, purposefully neglecting to block potential punches coming his way? I guess the fact that he's lightening quick allows him to do that. Azim da Dream ------------------ Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. I saw the Hamed fight... I'm glad I did, I've been waiting for this guy to lose! I bet if he had done his usual flip into the ring, he might've won. This was his first fight where he didn't do the flip over the top rope and well.. you know how superstitions work. When he came in the ring on his little swing thing, someone chunked a beer at him!! When he got up to the ring, to do his flip, he made a motion that his gloves were wet and just hopped in the ring normally. I think that's what lost him the fight oh and the fact that Barrera connected and landed more punches. Hamed looked like a punk out there during those 12 rounds (yes, it went the distance). Barrera also sent Hamed down once or twice. Hamed fought with a wide open stance and rarely protected himself. Barrera boxed, Hamed just fought. I'm glad Hamed lost this one, maybe it will bring him back down to earth. I love the guy and I hate the guy... He's the guy you love to hate! rH check out my site! it's been updated! I hate Hamed with a passion. All he's done is beat up average competition, then when he finally faced a decent fighter he lost. The prince is all hype and I wish I would have seen him lose this match! ------------------ Thoughts?
This fight was 2 years in the making, but didn't Barrera suffer a couple of set backs ? I'm kinda surprised and pleased at the same time. ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ? This deal isn't gonna make or break me Norm, so don't jerk me around." It was good to see a great fight. Prince has been running his mouth for a while. And Barrera shut it. Marco Antonio is a real tough fighter. He was ripped off in the Morales fight and I was glad to see him win this one. I thought Naseem's unorthodox style would give him more problems though. I have to admit, Prince surprised me (in a good way) after loosing by giving credit to Barrera. Azim, I think keeping his hands away from his body is all part of his strange style. He can get you with punches from any angle- its freakish. I think the re-match will be great. If they do it. ------------------ "I may be mistaken, but I'm never wrong" -Barkley
I've never been happier to see a fighter lose. ------------------ www.swirve.com I think my w**** is dead.
Hamed is so fun to watch! He uses little defense, has HUGE punching power for a little guy, and his pre-fight entrances are just hilarious. I always wanted him to get his head knocked off, as arrogant as he is, but it never happened, even as open as he leaves his head. Next thing you know, you are knocked silly by a flurry of quick punches and the fight's over. Glad he lost, but I will still watch every time I can when he fights. ------------------ There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."
