Im going to be vacationing in LA for the first time in a long time.

Here are some things I am looking for...

    - I need to find a nice hotel near Santa Monica

    - I am looking for some good places to grub that I cant find elsewhere. Can range from cheap (ex. In-Out Burger) to fancy (Nobu, Chinois, etc.). or something trendy like one of Ashton Kutchers restaraunts (dont know the name).

    - Entertainment and Other things you feel that I should not miss. I will also be going with some people who have never been, so I dont want to forget about anything.

I look forward to enjoying LA for 3 days.

    Thanks!!!

Thats Santa Barbara not Santa Monica.
Besides, there are no kids going so I dont think we'd have a warm welcome.
The kids are going to Berlin with Uncle Michael.

Beware of the Traffic. Be afraid. Be very afraid. Plan ahead and plan carefully.
The Getty is very beautiful and best of all is free.
The Aquarium in Long Beach is supposed to excellent.
Hollywood is alot cleaner than I thought it would be.
The Watts Towers are closed at the moment but you can still get really close to them. They're not as big as they look on TV or pictures.

Oh, beware the traffic. It is the biggest time consumer. LA is a great big freeway indeed.

The King Tut exhibit is in LA right now at the LACMA. But it might still be sold out (I tried getting tickets 2 weeks ago), so you should call ahead if you want to see it.

The Getty Museum is pretty cool, free admission, $7 parking, nice scenery outside, lots of galleries and sculptures..

There's also Pink's Hot Dog place, I never actually tried it as the lines are always wrapped around the block

I am at work in Santa Monica as I type.

Pinks is a good idea for cheap food. It's a Hollywood institution.

Two of the best burger places in SoCal are in Santa Monica: The Counter (Ocean Park Blvd) and Fathers Office (Montana) . FO has a Soup Nazi kinda following

Do you want to stay in a very nice hotel? We put up candidates/clients at Shutters. The Fairmont is nice also.

A summer concert @ the Hollywood Bowl is great ($4 cheap seats!!!) A picnic before is very nice.

The Getty is a good call.

The OC beaches are much nicer than LA IMO.

Have not been to Tut, but the lines are terrible.

Magic Mountain is one of the best coaster parks in the world.

BOA and Michaels are my favorite upscale Santa Monica places. You will almost definately run into a celebrity if you go to The Ivy on Ocean Avenue, but it is overpriced.

Be sure to drive through the spectacular Malibu Canyon which is relatively close to where you'll be staying...you just drive up from PCH into the Malibu mountains.....also, if you have time, Santa Barbara and Pismo Beach to the north are really nice. IMO, restaurants and bars in LA aren't all that great. And as others have mentioned, the traffic is abominable. Weather will be like paradise though.
