With Swift joining The Rox and the possibility of Wesley not being moved, is DWes going to change his number? What if Finley joins the team as well? How close are players to their Jersey #?

What if we sign Damon and keep Bobby? Who gets #3?

dwes is #7. i think head would get #4. if swift wants to wear #4, i think he has to pay either, head, the team, or the league to get the number and make head change his.. if ever we got damon and have bobby, i highly doubt sura would give up his # for damon...

I've been wondering how all this will shake out too. Are you saying there is already a general NBA rule that mandates this? I always thought the two players generally just worked it out amongst themselves.

Normally, the player that gets the number first would have priority, but in this case:

    1) Head is a rookie - normally rookies are subject to friendly abuse anyway.
    2) Head has not worn this number in an official Rox jersey yet, much less any NBA jersey (he played in summer league uni's obviously).
    3) Swift is a five-year veteran, with some NBA credentials (not a scrub).
    4) We don't want to create any unnecessary ill feelings immediately after Swift has chosen us even though we only had the MLE to offer.

So unless there is already an NBA rule I didn't know about, it'll be interesting to find out - assuming we ever get the real truth!

I am kinda assuming the opposite and that the vet gets dibs.

Not sure about Basketball, but in MLB and the NFL, players 'voluntarily' give up their numbers to bigger stars who really want 'their' old numbers, after a trade or whatever. This 'volunteering' usually happens after the star buys the number-holder a Mercedes, or a nice dinner, or 20 lap dances, or something else of value to today's ath-a-letes. :)

Swift is the vet, he should get #4. Head should pick another number.

I've heard this too; I believe it was a Barkley comment a while back (of course).

Wesley is the vet, he keeps the number.

    Wesley wears #7.
Head/Stro wear #4 - Stro would have priority I would think due to his veteran standing and the fact Head hasn't even put the officiall uniform on (technically).

Here is another little twist. what if the rockets signed finley, then who gets number 4. I say finley no questions asked. but then i dunno what number swift would choose. maybe #6 in honor of ex-teammate bonzi wells or maybe 44
