With Swift signed and Juwan Howard coming back form his knee injury and heart problems who should (and who will) be the starting PF for the Rockets? I am actually torn on this issue. Swift would be great next to Yao in the starting lineup with Howard coming off the bench to provide a scoring punch. However, after seeing how bad Howad was last year off the bench maybe its best to start Howard and then have Swift come off the bench. Either way I would like Swift to play about 28 mpg and Howard play about 20 mpg. What do you guys think?
I want Swift to start because that will prove he is better than JH. I'm on record as liking JH a lot. He has basketball smarts, passes well, fits into the flow of our offense, rebounds OK, knows his place in the pecking order and plays his hardest every night. If Swift is good enough to supplant JH as the starter from day 1, I'll be a happy camper. The tastiest crow I could ever eat is if Swift far outperforms my expectations. Yum yum!
Baker could give us SOMETHING for the money we're dumping for him. Even when we had MoT, he put some time on the court while he sucked. Vin just needs to learn how to move to the basket when Yao gets his double-team. Easy 2's.
As shown in the results this is a no brainer Stro should start from day one. It may look rough early on in the season but when they mesh him and rest of team they will be better also using Howard off the bench may be as key to Houstons success as Swift starting.
So just because most of the fans think he should start, it makes it a given? You earn playing time my man. If he shows in practice that he's superior to Juwan, then he'll start. It's as simple as that. If I had to guess, I'd say he will not start day 1. Maybe later on during the season, when he becomes more acclimated to the plays we run.
Sorry I didnt see that thread. Well it seems like atleast the fans want Swift to start over Howard. I just hope Howard doesnt play as bad off the bench this year as he did last season when he wasnt starting. Even with Swift we still need the 8-10 ppg and 5-7 rpg that Howard provided us until he got hurt last year. Its also no guarantee that JVG gives the starting spot to Swift over Howard. Iam sure he will see how good Swift is in our system and if howard is completely healthy before he makes his decision.
Stro's Shot blocking Abelity will help yao out Immensly. with Swift next to him, yao will commit less fouls. last season due to JH's poor shotblocking, yao had to contest everything, hence the foul trouble. with Swift yao knows he dosent have to contest everything.
Gin Baker is in a contract year.......lol Juwan will start and Stro will come off the bench. But that doens't mean that JHo will play more minutes then Stro....but JVG likes and respects his vets who play hard for him. And JHo played well for him last year until his injury.
i'd be willing to bet money that swift didn't agree to less money than he wanted to be a bench guy again. pretty sure he got a guarantee that he would start.
I think Howard is a much better player as a starter, but Swift is supposed to be the perfect compliment to Yao. It is a bit of a quandry. Swift will start, but I think Howard should.
I think we're gonna run Swift as a starter until: 1. He shows he was a bust 2. JH shows he's better (back up to speed) 3. He goes down with an injury (God forbid)
