Yeah, I know, sorry for creating a topic that has been discussed plenty. Still, I've been reading a lot of reports lately about the point guards remaining on the market. I'm seeing a lot of mentions of Payton, Jaric, Stoudamire, and some of Dooling. The other thing I notice is that there tend to be only three teams consistently mentioned in the chase for point guards: Houston, Orlando, and the Lakers. I'm thinking it's a possibility a guy like Stoudamire or Payton lands in our laps at bargain-bin cost ($1.7 mil) because of the numbers cruch. What do you guys think are the odds of this happening? Will we have to make a trade to get, say, Stoudamire, or you think he might see that there's nowhere else to go and opt for the $1.7 mil? Kind of the same situation we had with Swift if you think about it. That would be amazing to go 2 for 2 in one summer.
i think landing stoudamire with a SNT is much more probable. we will have to give up at least one of our beloved guards (sura/wesley/james), but this way we still have some options with our LLE. i can't see damon signing for the LLE.
Maybe Payton would sign for the LLE. He's wanted a championship, and he's gotta think he has a better shot at that in Houston than Boston.
Playing in Houston would cause Payton the same frustrations he had in LA. Remember, Payton complained that he didn't get to handle the ball enough in LA's offense, which relied heavily on Kobe Bryant to have the ball most of the time. Much is the case with the Rockets and T-Mac. Realizing that (1) Gary would probably become a big headache and disrupt team chemistry and (2) he is old (Stoudamire is several years younger) and the Rockets want to build a (relatively) young and athletic squad to play together for years to come, I'd have to say "no" to Payton.
I dont know if Gary would command the ball as much as you guys are saying. I mean he's totally way into the end of his career and frankly I'm pretty sure he's looking for that ring. I think he understands the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd option is not going to be him. His role on this team would be just a playmaker role and I think thats what we need. He's still very experienced and understands the game. It's not like he's a moochie norris.
We just need a point guard who can stay in front of their man, contest the shot, run the offense efficiently, hit his open jumpers, not turn the ball over, and be a smart player... wait I just thought of Damon Stoudamire.
Always have to have a plan B, I think he wants to play for Miami but signing him for the LLE if we can't get Jaric or DS is something I think we should consider.

Payton was a cancer in the locker room in Seattle. he constantly got into brawls with other players, and the coach. once Brent Barry mocked him by kicking the balls around and throwing towels at Nate McMillan, saying e wants the ball 40 minutes a game and he wants to take every shot.
You got it right! Our PG will have to fight out with our SG to see who is the 4th and 5th scoring option. The SG is there to play defense, make the entry pass; and the PG is there to play defense, get the ball down the court and make an entry pass. If either can hit an open jumper that is a plus, we just don't need a monster scorer IMO because there is only one ball. If we could land a monster 3-point shooter that would be nice even if that was all they did.
Just say no to GP, too much bad attitude, he would be a disruption for sure. Keyon Dooling's name has come up with other teams but not the Rockets. Beyond DS, anything else is just pure speculation.

If hes all that, why did he shoot sub 40% no one was and is beating the door down for him? Why? He's a ok player even at his age, but nothing special. He's no better than the Sura/James combo.
I'd be interested in Jeff McInnis. He's been known to whine a bit when he doesn't get a lot of playing time, but I don't think he's necessarily a cancer, per se. He's very, very good at taking care of the ball. His defense is terrible though. Still, if we totally strike out, he'd be worth a shot.
When Payton signed with the Lakers for cheap, I thought his attitude had changed and wanted to be a good boy on a championship team. But no. He complained. He got beat badly on defense and blamed others. He couldn't shoot, couldn't finish a layup and blamed the Lakers offense. Say no to Gary Payton.
I would list Earl Watson, Jay Williams, Stoudamire, Jason Williams. THe first 3 are FA now. And they are young except Stoud. Those old and slow guys should not be in consideration.
