Tonight at 5, the US takes on Honduras in the Gold Cup semi's. Panama vs. Columbia in the other semi after the completion of the 1st game.

US wins this one 2-0. I see a US vs Columbia final with the USA winning another Gold Cup.

    Hey SwolyD...Where is Mexico?

Nice shot is more like it.

As nice as it was to see Mexico get knocked out of the tournement, and by Colombia at that, I was kind of hoping the US would be the ones to do it. Oh well, we'll get our chance in a few weeks.

Here's a link to videos of all of the goals from Mexico - Colombia.

Freak no. Granted, a goal is a goal as I stated above, but the dude kicking it wasn't even aware he was shooting it AT the goal. OK, a win is a win, and a goal is scored and wins the game, but you're not going to tell me it wasn't a bizarre goal and LUCKY. C'mon, now... c'mon...

Even if it wasn't against MEXICO, I would have said:  still.

The US played pretty terrible in the first half, hopefully they'll come out and put forth some effort in the second half.

    It was intentional.

As supporter of the Mexican team, I was pissed and I understand your pain Swoly-D. I was there too. But I have to be honest and say that Columbia played a better game through 90 minutes. It wasn't till the second half that Mexico came out and played like they were suppsed to. Tough to swollow :(

The second half wasn't any better but we pulled it off at the end. I'll be glad if Wolff never plays for the US again, he misses so many chances right in front of the goal, there's got to be somebody that can do better.

Got to agree with you on Wolff, the guy is absolutely horrible and I don't know why he continues to get chances starting up front.

Also, usually when I watch Beasely, especially against CONCACAF competition, his pace is on another level than most players, but he just looked lethargic and uncreative today. Same goes for Donovan.

    Still, what a finish.

tacoma p.l., well said. No one was on target, until only the last 10 minutes. Usually Damarcus is the one sparking the offense from behind and the midfield, and even today he couldn't get past the Honduran defense.

    TELEFUTURA ANNOUNCER Fernando Schwartz:
"¿A quién te gustaría enfrentar en la final, Panamá o Colombia?"
"Whom would you like to face in the final, Panama or Colombia?"
    PLANES-LANDON-MY-FOREHEAD DONOVAN:
[with a smirk] "No importa... [bla bla bla]... hay más gente de Colombia... so... Panamá"
"It doesn't matter... [blah blah blah]... there's more Colombian people in the stands, so... Panamá"

 What a F*CK*N' loser. He couldn't stay quiet and someone from Colombia is going to freakin' terrorize his *ss for saying something so steeeeewwwwwpid. I freakin' hate his *ss.

Aw. Apparently not. That ox Patino scored a pair of goals late, but Panama won. You should remember Patino for wiping out the entire left side of the Mexican team - and being a bit of a diver.

Plus, Columbia isn't so insane about the USA team like Mexico is.

At some point, Bruce Arena has to consistently send out our first choice side. I can't remember the last time our first team lineup played two games in a row.

Ay Ay Ay Ay Ay canta no llores. You need to chill. Apparetly in your world, soccer players can't be scarcastic. If anyone needs his a$$ terrorized it's that pinche pendejo Marquez. It might have been almost 3 years ago but he showed who the Biggest F*CK*N loser was when he tried to decapitate Cobi.  Oh yeah, not to let you forget but your team of huevones lost that game bad. It's still doesn't take away from the fact that Marquez needs some of his own medicine.

It must be tough to cheer for a team that can't get it up for the big game. Your team of cabrones will always come up short when it counts. WC, Confederations, Gold Cup. It doesn't matter, they will always play like chochas when they should be playing like men. :p

Usually we use better players for qualifying games. The thing that bugs me about our B and C team is that they are made up of older players, if you're not going to put out the best players then at least send out some younger guys to see if they are any good and give them a chance to play with the national team. He has given Onweyu and Dempsey (who would be a lot better if he learned how to pass) some time this tournement, so that's a plus.

Why are we bringing up the past all of a sudden? Chill? Moi? Ahhhh, the IRONY...

Yeap. That was a cheap shot in a sore-loser way. He got taken out of that game for what he did, and no one in Mexico or in the U.S. who goes for Mexico will defend that. Shall we say your peen-chay peyn-dey-hoe Marquez (that's f*ck*n *ssh*l* in Spanish, for those of you not following Mr. plcmts17's manner of language) "wanted to take himself out by committing murder on Cobi." That's a sad way to end a game and can't be accepted.

I will be the first one to admit that crap isn't called for, and I will say it is just plain wrong just like--OK, let's bring up the past again--you shouldn't piss on the practice field (see Olympics' games, Donovan).

If you say that in my soccer world he can't be "scarcastic", explain then, how it is that professional basketball, baseball, and football players are all over the news when they say something silly? If someone asked Yao Ming whom he'd like to face, he'd be professional about it so he wouldn't even be SARCASTIC.

"... your Spanish is worse than your English." - Ringo

Puedlfor, I beg to differ about Colombia being insane about the U.S.A (see World Cup '94, own-goal score by Colombia).

It's the Gold Cup. I have no problem with sending out a C team. That tournament should be once every 4 years, alternating every 2 years with the World Cup like the European Championships do.

But, yeah, it's tough to understand why Arena likes some of his veterans so much. Quite frankly, the younger players in MLS tend to be better. It has little to do with me preferring younger players - and a lot to do with drastic improvements in US soccer in the past 10 years.

But then, Arena has shown a tendency to give old guys too much of a chance. Pope is finished. He has no business being anywhere near the nats. Ernie Stewart got call-ups after he was a complete liability on the pitch. Richie Williams was getting call-ups when he was a below-average MLS player.

Arena likes his veterans. No doubt about it.

Not having Telefutura in Austin, I did not have a chance to watch the game. I will be watching the final on Sunday against Panama.

By the looks of it, Honduras (the last CONCACAF team to beat the USMNT in the US) out played us in the first half. 2 nice goals made it all for naught as we move on to the finals.

Swoly, revenge is near (even though the game might not matter as both teams will most likely have tied up qualification by then).

What was that crap Hejduk and Pope were doing, giving the ball up close to the goal and allowing Honduras strikers to come close to Keller and almost point-blank shoot? As much as I've hated the U.S. for beating my dear Mexican team, I can't help but wonder when Bruce will start to notice the major mistakes the veterans are making. As you have noted, haven, it's just a minor tournament, but yes, they should be on the bench at least in the first half... with only 4 subs allowed, I don't think Arenas can afford that.

By the way, with the sendoff in the second half, Arenas will HAVE TO miss the championship game and watch it at home or in the dressing room.

    RE: leroy420
Oh, crap... for real? no Telefutura local TV for you? Man, that sucks... so you can't watch them on the National Telefutura signal?
