If you happen to receive an e-mail with the attached file "emmanuel.exe" for the love of god, don't open it. It contains a nasty computer virus that will f*ck up your system and automatically send itself to everyone on your e-mail contact list.

I'm putting this here because there are people from this BBS in my e-mail address book from our various fantasy leagues and I'm worried the virus might have been sent out to you.

I'm posting this from my sister's computer while mine is in the shop. I'd appreciate it if you all would post in this thread every now and then to keep it alive up near the top at least for the next few days. Hopefully, I'll be back online soon.

Remember, if you get an email with attachment "emmanuel.exe" delete it right away! It sucks.

The payload that emanuel.exe carries is actually the "popular" Navidad trojan. Mucks with your registry... nasssty. There are "reversals" out there of the damage it does, but the best thing to do is run an AV especially on your incoming mail (one that scans it as it comes in).

    Good post fadeaway.

    Fadeway,

I got that e-mail I think a couple of weeks ago. No message just an attachment. I deleted it right away.

My org had to deal with it. It's relatively an easy fix, but the time spent trying to figure out what happened is the killer. You do need to clean up the registry. Sometimes it has a smile face, that if you click on the eye, it will disable, but not always.

Well I'm back. Cost $50 to get windows reinstalled. Tried doing it myself but I couldn't get all my drivers configured right. What a pain in the butt.

$50 to install Windows?! Damn... I'm in the wrong business. LOL!

Just to let everyone know how bad this could be, my email scanner just caught about 14 incoming emails that had the KAK worm in it. Since it uses Outlook to propagate and then screw with your Windows registry on the 1st of any month at 5pm, I'd say I would've missed this one if it hadn't been for the AV software... [IMG]

    whew.
