This is EXCELLENT news! This will solidify the Rockets as regular playoff contenders and eventual champions! I hope he fits well in Van Gundy's system. This may be a key component of the chemistry the Rockets need to succeed. We didn't even overpay him (5 years / 30 million dollars)! I consider the Rockets offseason a success because CD and JVG got the man they wanted. They now need to focus on signing some key reserves from last season (i.e. Jon Barry, Dikembe Mutumbo, possibly Mike James (if the money works) and some cheap free agent prospects that will provide considerable help to next season's roster. I wonder will Swift play the three or the four when he gets here? Likely the three spot....

With what McGrady has had to say about Swift and how excited the Rockets brass is, you can't help but feel the same excitment as well. As has been alluded to by others the 2 biggest reasons Swift will be here (I think) are:

1. Swift was Rockets first choice. None of this we want SAR, but we will settle for Swift if we can't get SAR. Swift was number one for Houston and they didn't stop pursuing him till they got him. Houston wanted Swift and now we have him. Yay!

2. T-Mac. And to a lesser extent Yao. But having TMac openly come out and say that the getting Swift here would be a major part of the "perfect off-season" and everything he has said since (helping Swift develop into an All-Star, the best coaching and staff to heolp Swift develop etc.), all factored into Swifts decision. I mean if you had one of the top 5 players in the league coming out and wanting you to sign with the his team, you would want to sign there too, wouldn't you?

So looking forward to the next few months to see who else the Rockets bring in (and send out) and then bring on season 05-06 I say!
