Like FFB, I "randomly" copied this post to respond to. What is this supposed to tell me other than "Boss" has no clue in regards to appreciating discussion on ANY music from this decade or really anything outside AC/DC and Fajitas and Fast Food? How does his post help anyone? I'd be better off looking through obituaries... FFB, I did not (nor do I suspect did anyone else) just "vomit" forth a vague list of albums. In fact, if you actualy read the thread you will find some VERY common denominators. I noticed multiple mentions of Spoon, Interpol, Alkaline Trio, Wilco, Flaming Lips, The Strokes, etc which would aid as an "elaboration" for you.
Man, I haven't a clue. I've gotten some great ideas about what I need to buy and check out, however, by reading this thread. Good idea. Thanks.
I'm gonna have to check out Coldplay - a rush of blood to the head. Seems like lots of people like it. Is it better than their new one, X and Y?
"Dig" is pretty good. The two bands were originally friends and Anton sort of launched on to the idea of manufacturing a "fued" between the two bands to drum up publicity, but it didn't really work. The Dandy Warhols became fairly successful while the BJM sort of self-destructed. The thought that kept coming into my head was the Rick James quote, "cocaine is a hell of a drug." All of these people kept going on and on about how brilliant and amazing they all are and I felt sort of bad for them. I wanted to tell them that they are barely footnotes to the *late 90's alternative scene,* which is itself, a tiny speck of crud on the world cultural landscape. The Dandy's, particularly Courtney, come across as a bunch of jerks. Anton, the BJM leader is certifiably crazy and probably not as talented as everyone goes on about, still comes across better. The documentary is worth a look..my favorite person was the guy who basically played tamborine and gave one-liners. He was a hoot.
imo the new one pales compared to a rush of blood... which is a classic. that being said as much as i disliked x and y my first 10 or so listens, it has grown on me. there are some good ones on there. "a message" kicks ass, it's kind of like "warning signs" from the last album which is one of my favorites.
My 00's favorites: Super Furry Animals- "Rings Around the World Outkast- "Speakerboxx/The Love Below" Jay Z- "The Blueprint" White Stipes- "Elephant" Bob Dylan- "Love and Theft" Franz Ferdinand- "Franz Ferdinand" Loretta Lynn- "Van Lear Rose" Brian Wilson- "Smile" Flaming Lips- "Yoshimi vs. the Pink Robots" Queens of the Stone Age -"Songs for the Deaf" The Shins- "Chutes Too Narrow"
Green Day - American Idiot Ludacris - The Red Light District Audioslave - Audioslave Stone Temple Pilots - Shangri-La Dee Da 50 Cent - Get Rich or Die Tryin' 311 - From Chaos G-Unit - Beg For Mercy My list could have been a lot longer, but I tried to narrow it down as much as I possibly could. Basically, that's in order of how great I think those CD's are. American Idiot is amazing (for what it is); I flat-out love that CD. Ludacris is the best, and that CD is awesome. All of these CD's are excellent to me.
Ehhhh... since Nine Inch Nails' The Fragile was released in the fall of 1999, I guess it doesn't count. So I'll have to go for With Teeth instead. Anyone seen the new video for "Only" yet? Pretty cool stuff. I think it's available in QT from the official NIN website. Also, tickets to his Houston concert went on sale Saturday. He's playing the Toyota Center this time.
