Be careful with the 700m. The biggest return issue is that people don't realize it only has a 12" diagonal screen.
Or you can wait another month and get a similar deal. Dell has blowouts every month. I bought my Inspiron 6000 a couple of months ago during a "sale" where they were having 35% off or $750 off.
If I were you, I'd spend whatever extra it may cost to get an IBM. You'll find support centers for IBM/Lenovo all over the world, and you'll never have a problem getting a part replaced or service on the machine. But it's so well-built, you may not need any service.
for those interested: the $750 off any Dell Insipiron over $1499 starts again at 5:00pm CST. the 700m and 600s always sell out first, so be ready. i might buy a second one for the bedroom at home.
No but Ill give it to Dell, they have the best customer support. That is what you pay for with Dell. They should take care of it if you have a problem. Even Toshibas support is awesome, I sent them my computer because it was having problems and they replaced everything in there because they couldnt figure out what was going on. But in the end I realized it was the aftermarket RAM i put in was faulty (worked but would cause errors that Windows would mistakenly assume was the video card).
My boss had a Dell with that capacitor problem. They sent out a technician to our office, who fixed it in 1 hour. Best customer service ever. Toshibas... on the other hand are "teh suck." We used to buy Toshiba laptops exclusively for the office. But we've had so many breakdown and had to go through so much red tape to get them repaired. Eventually, we had to drive out to their Houston facility and deliver the defective product, then pick it up 3 WEEKS LATER when it was fixed.
Go to Dell's site, customize a 700m to your specs (make sure it costs at least $1500), then subtract $750 from the final price.
hmm, the 700m seems to be more on the costilier side. you might be able to get a nice little powerbook for that much.
with this $750 off coupon drapg is talking about, i can get a 700m with 512mb, 60gb for $802...$150 cheaper than the ibook
If I pick one of the preconfigured ones....say the Standard Level 700m, which costs $2014 regular price, but only $1552 with a student discount....will the $750 be taken off the $2014 or off the $1552?
Woah. Hold up there. Are you actually trying to put forth the notion that Apple... is cheaper... than Dell?
OK, here's the thing...I can get a iBook G4 M9426: 1.0 GHz, 256 MB RAM, 30 GB, Airport Extreme Network Card Built in for $800. I can also get Dell Inspiron 700m: 1.2 GHz, 512 MB RAM, 60 GB for $800. Which one should I pick? I've heard that a 256mb on a Mac is similar to a 512mb on a PC. Is this true?
I would get the dell. Simply becuse your getting more ram and more hd space. I hope the dell has a built in wireless g card, because it makes a big difference. Also, the Apples have better battery life, in my honest opinion. ooh, and usually laptops dont come with firewire slots, so be sure that the one you choose does have one, that is if you have a camcorder, or an ipod.
you can only apply 1 discount per purchase with Dell (I believe) you can't stack this $750 coupon on top of a student coupon. But go ahead and try when the clock strikes 5pm
