No, it is not known, but we know he was in a hospital "getting some blood work done", then his daughter had to post for him a few times, and he has not posted in a long time and the account has not been used in a long time.
From the last thread that spoke of his status, it was clarified that he was indeed deceased. That aside, the phrasing was a bit nonchalant and callous.
JAG, you were probably around when we last heard from Pops. Clutch has said that he has tried to reach him with no response, so we assume the worst, but we just don't know. I love the idea of Deke for 2-3 years at half the MLE. He'd be a great mentor for Swift.
Yeah, I remember him posting from a hospital, and I THINK I remember something about his son or daughter typing for him at one point, but don't recall anything at all about any follow up, beyond what I (wrongly it turns out) assumed was just alarmist meodrama. Damn.

This is yet another stop gap move in a continuing series of stop gap moves to correct CD's personnel mistakes (like the signing of Piatkowski and Griffin in the first place). What amazes (and irratates) me to no end is how Dallas, with a boob like Mark Cuban running things, can end up with Dampier for basically nothingwhile the Rockets continue to waste time signing marginal players who end up doing nothing to make the team more competative in their conference. I guess I like having sunshine blown up my ass, collective and otherwise.
All in all, hillboy needs to bend over and see if smoke is still coming out of any orafices. Deke, keep building hospitals in Africa man, or where ever you want to. Just do it as a Rocket. We could use a big fella as a coach around here for a couple years also.
I love Mt. Mutombo. In the beginning of the season my roommate, who is from Houston but is a lifelong Spurs fan, made the most adamant and stubborn claim that Kevin Willis is far better than Mutombo. Anyways, bring him back. We love you deke.
I wondered how much Mutombo had left in the tank when we traded for him. Needless to say we need him back at least one more year.
I thought Deke has already said he only wanted to play for the Rox like 50 times! I guess it's great news to have it reinforced again. Finger wagging is classic.
Deke is one of those players that I feel should have a championship when he retires. Not to say that not all players can fit this mold, I think he deserves it and it would just be awesome to have him get it as a Rocket (subsequently Houston benefits also )
Let's not lowball Deke either. I don't like the idea of proposing the vet minimum to him, don't we have his early bird rights and his salary would not count against the cap. I believe we paid him 4M last year and he deserves the respect of being offered at least that again.
Deke has to come back. He was so solid on the 2nd unit. Plus I think he is a very good influence on Yao. They seem to be good friends and competitors. The ONLY reason I can see the Rockets NOT bringing Deke back is if they luckout and are able to sign Stromile Swift and feel that Swift can shift to the 5 spot for the 2nd unit. One way or the other we need a shot blocker to anchor the 2nd unit's defense.
Even if they sign Swift I would still like to see us resign Deke. He is so valuable. I think even after he retires they should keep him on as a "big man" tudor. From what I understand he helped Yao considerably during the season with his timing. Bring back Deke!
