I thought Blumenthal looked pretty good against us in pre-season last yr (with the Kings).....surprised he wasn't mentioned as one of the 'non-throaters'.... anyways, thanks KAS..
I will feel a lot sympathy for the guys who are to defend Head next season. They will run to death. If Head can have a decent percentage of 3pt shooting, the opponents have to take care of him, which make it more difficult for them to double Yao and Tmac. And his running across the half court all the time will disturb the opponents' D system.
The way this team is set up (with Yao and T-mac being the main focal points), if Head's defense and shooting is as good as advertised, then there is only one question mark that would separate him from being an effective PG for us. Can he bring the ball up against defensive pressure? That's is. That's the only PG skill that he NEEDS to possess. Being able to run an offense or create off the dribble for his teammates would be a major bonus, but ultimately unecessary. If he can bring the ball up instead of relying on Mcgrady then Head can easily play PG for us.
LOL, I was about to ask the same thing. I asked it previously in the first thread some players were called throaters, but I couldn't remember the definition.
I wonder if Baxter will make the team since we have such a great need for rebounding. He kinda reminds me of Sean May, winning the championship and all.
Thanks for the insightful post, Kas... Man, I am so ready for the summer league games to begin (One more Swift thread and I'm gonna launch). I know they are not all that much, but at least it's something, and based on Clutch's profile of our players the games should at least provide interesting discussion and maybe a surprise or two.
Thanks for the report, Kas. I'm sure we all appreciate it. It's disappointing to hear that Badianne is looking so terrible, but great to hear that Head looks so good. I suppose I'm ready to give up on Badianne too. Also, as to keeping your identity secret. If anybody from the Rockets organization reads this, aren't they just going to be like "Oh. It's the guy who's always talking about throating" and know exactly who you are? I mean, how many people use that expression?
Don't give up on him. Just understand what he was when we drafted him and know that 2nd round big men that are drafted at that age and from a foreign country normally don't turn into anything special. Thats not to say he won't but there is definitely a reason a young guy with that much size and athletisism lasted until the second round. Lets just say that what ever the Rockets get from Badman will be icing on the cake. If he turns into a productive NBA player then all the better but if he does nothing and never makes the team then nothing lost.
Anyone hear Matt Jackson reference this thread on his show even repeating the term "throater". He passed it off as some media report (I'm not trying to insult the thread starter) and didn't even mention he got the info from this site.
