So I let my cousin borrow my car and he changes the sound settings to my stereo and it sounds awful. I had never changed the settings before and now i don't know how to make it sound good again. Does anyone know the usual default settings or can anyone recommend their own personal settings. For example: Bass: 7 Treble:4 Balance: C Fade: R7
Well, it kind of depends on the speakers, the car, the stereo, the amp, etc. A setting of "7" means nothing meaningful - 7 of what? 9? (oh damn, she was hot), 10? 55? 100? Relatively speaking it sounds like he likes bass. Looks like he jacked up the bass and threw the sound to the back speakers (the ones that usually handle the most bass) - if that's what "R" means, that is. Try evening out the bass and treble values first, then figure out what happens to the R7 value as you turn the knob for the fade.
First off change the fade back to zero or so. Turn the bass down, and treble up so they are basically at the same spot. Then adjust from there.
It would probably help if you listed what year and make your car is, and if you have the stock system etc.
Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and... Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten? Nigel Tufnel: Exactly. Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder? Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where? Marty DiBergi: I don't know. Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do? Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven. Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder. Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder? Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven
