Bobby Simmons will sign with Bucks! We lost another guy on the screen. CD hurry to sign Walker please. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2103984 Former Clippers swingman Bobby Simmons agreed to a five year, $47 million deal with the Bucks on Friday, his agent Mark Bartelstein said. Bobby Simmons Simmons "Bobby intends to sign with the Bucks when the moratorium ends," Bartelstein told ESPN.com. "He was very appreciative of the opportunity that the Clippers gave him but felt like this was the best opportunity for him." The move is the clearest signal yet that the Bucks are serious about competiting for a championship this year. In the past week, they signed the No. 1 pick in the draft, Andrew Bogut, agreed to a six-year, $90 million dollar deal with Michael Redd and began the on the court rehab for point guard T.J. Ford. The Bucks have two more significant free agents, Dan Gadzuric and Zaza Pachulia, that they are also trying to re-sign. Simmons will join Desmond Mason, Jiri Welsch and Redd to form a pretty potent combination at the shooting guard and small forward positions. Mo Williams and hopefully Ford will take care of the point. Their only area of weakness now is at the four where Joe Smith is the only big guy holding down the fort. The loss of Simmons, coming on the heels of the rejection by free agent Ray Allen, is yet another blow to the Clippers. Simmons had a breakout year for them and was a key to their success this season. However, head coach Mike Dunleavy was uncomfortable paying Simmons, who has played well for just one season, that type of money. The Clippers could also lose free agent Marko Jaric this summer, putting into serious question their hopes of making the playoffs next season. Simmons won 2004-05 NBA most improved player honors in his second year with the Los Angeles Clippers. The Bucks also hired Terry Stotts as their new head coach Friday.

he would have been a nice addition but not at that money. one year of production doesn't equal over $9 mil. a season.
[ESPNEWS] B.Simmons to Bucks Just saw on ESPNEWS that Bobby Simmons and Bucks have an agreement on a 5 year deal.
It looks like the new CBA is not stopping teams for offering ridiculous contracts. Bobby is a solid pro and good guy, but 9.5mill/year for a player who 2 years ago was the poster child for the NBDL? The Bucks overpaid Redd and now they overpay Simmons. They're both one dimensional players--strictly shooters--with Redd being more accomplished. Owner/Senator Kohl is breaking the bank. Who says that politicians don't use their position to advance their agendas? Milwaukee fell on some money and they don't know what to do with it.
Hurry and sign Walker? I actually hope he doesn't...unless it's reasonable. Desperation always leads to bad bad contracts.
thats a good sign for them i would have been very skeptical of the rockets if they signed him because he is very unproven and his potential is not really star material but more to being a good player. i guess it was pretty difficult to guess where he would go since 16 teams chased him.
Does this mean that Desmond Mason could be on the block to shore up their PG position. Paying out all these FA dollars could all be for naught if they have to rely on TJ Ford, and he breaks down. I guess they probably wouldn't want James, since they traded him away. And I suppose they wouldn't want Sura and his questionable health. Hmm. I guess if Mason is on the block, we probably wouldn't have much of a chance at him. Unless I'm missing something.
Too many dumb contracts are being given out this year. I think we shouldn't pay a guy like swift 8 mil a year.
^^^ agreed. this signing has me re-thinking the rockets getting anyone in the FA market who can actually contribute next season. there is no way simmons who WAS in the NBDL 2 seasons ago after getting cut by the wizards, should get that type of money. there have been hall of famers who NEVER saw that type of cash in their playing days and now BOBBY SIMMONS is getting it???? i'm almost speechless about the money being tossed around the NBA to "solid starters". i think the rockets should trade everyone except yao and tmac for 1st round picks (over time of course) because that's the ONLY way nowadays to create a winning team. there is no way we could hand $9.5 million to a role player every year. it's impossible.
How does a guy like Simmons get all this money after one good season. I am glad CD is smarther than that. Their major weakness was at the 4 and they sign a 3. They fire their coach and replace him with Stotts. Larry Harris's ideas make me scratch my head.
i really wasnt feeling bobby simmons coming to the rockets. i think the rockets are trying harder for swift then if he doesnt come here then i think they will make a hard push for walker. bobby isnt worth what hes asking for after just one decent season. but the bucks will be a dangerous team next year thats for sure!
Maybe they'll be looking to move Mason to shore up their PG position. I can't imagine that they will be relying on the return of TJ. Of course I'm not sure that it matters to us. They wouldn't want James because they traded him away, and they probably wouldn't want Sura because of his own injury history.
