I think it's too simple and too naive to say that Iraqis insurgents just hate "freedom and democracy". Most of them never experienced freedom and democracy, why would they hate that? By the same token, they wouldn't love it either, because they don't know what's good is about democracy. It's just hard for them to embrace you going in with tanks.
Didn't you see the videos or read the accounts of the elections? The Iraqis defied the insurgent warnings against going out and dropping a piece of cardboard paper into a box. They risked their own lives to do that....
... and I didn't deny that. It is a fact of life. Why would they join the side that is gleefully killing the neighbors? Were it not for the insurgents, much of the broken systems would be repaired. In fact many have been and were destroyed again. I don't know about you, but I don't think we should even think about trying to please every living soul. Nothing would ever get done.
Yes, I saw that. I admit I was very positively surprised at the time I saw that. But you can't make a claim that Iraqis embracing Americans' entrance, and those who didn't vote or fought against the Americans are all terrorists from Al-Quaeda. Yes, those who vote, a large number of Iraqis want to have a say in their own government, but that doesn't translate to the love to Americans. During WWII, when Japan invaded China, there were lots of people in some cities went on the streets, waiving flags to welcome them during their marching. Does that mean Chinese welcomed Japanese invasion? I don't think so.
I believe the word I used was "appreciate." Here's an idea: those of us who are fighting for a nation full of free people with self-determination as an operating principle... let's all row in the same direction. As bad as they may be Democrats and Republicans both are better than The Taliban.
