Well, it's that time of year. Time for the best game on the market to hit stores. July 11th is the date. The updates look pretty sweet. Apparently there is a Heisman mode where you can create a high school player, recruit him, have him win the Heisman, then import him to Madden. The game has 'impact players' that can change the game (just like the real game) and I think the pre-game has been totally overhauled to look like ESPN's College Game Day. A lot of the stadiums have been updated as well. New animations too. I'm really looking forward to this game like I do every year. Here are some screen shots. The only thing that blows is that it's still 49.99. I thought they would lower the price like they did with the NBA games. Oh well, it'll be worth it. July 11th!
This is easily the best sports games on the market each year, and for a couple of years it was the best game PERIOD. I really, really hope that they fixed the freeze up glitch from last year. I had to replay countless games because the game would lock up. In-season recruiting makes mer nervous. It blows when you have an awesome season and tank recruiting because of the mechanics. I guess I'll simulate a few practice seasons just to find out in the in and outs of the new mechanics. I'm up for someone online gaming on the PS2 if any of you have the capability. However, I won't play you if you try to use an option team or Va Tech.
Yep got mine pre-ordered. I am really looking forward to it. I'll post a mini review as soon as I get the game and play a little on it.
What are you guys doing for rosters this year? The DT Linder (sp?) site is blocked from work so I don't know if he's doing them this year or not. Is there any other way to get them without a sharkport?
Linder has a new site. He is doing them and already has a copy of the game. He is scheduled to have his set out on hte 12th. http://www.psxsports.com/ As an interesting side note, I was looking through the list of impact players by IGN and noticed a kid I coached is one. For Ark. St. MLB #14, played for me a few years ago. Unfortunately he was dismissed from the team a few weeks ago.
I heard Compusa started selling thier copies of this game last Tuesday when they received thier shipments. Apparently EA did not send any memos with the street release date with the shipment, so Compusa was able to get away with selling it early. So there is a handful of folks that have this game already.
Yes, I waded through all the 10 yr. olds on the EA boards throwing epithets and lame taunts at each other to read about that- apparently some sort of administrative "glitch" or "error" that allowed CompUSA to sell some of their copies. People are going nuts trying to get the game! This is definitely my favorite game the past few years- I bet it'll be SCARY what Vince Young can do on this game! Early accounts are that he's hell on his feet, but erratic with his arm. I guess that would be a fair recreation of him. My ps2 has died on me, so I'm thinking of just going the XBox route and buying that. Hopefully they have some good deals going for online play. Anyway, can't wait!
I just called Compusa. Here's exactly how the conversationw ent: Me: I want to check on the availability of a video ga.. Him: [cutting me off] NCAA Football? Wwe won't have it until Tuesday. Awesome. I never even had a chance to mention the game.
Dang, still blocked from work. I assume you can still send him your memory card and a donation just like in years past? I guess I'll go ahead and send mine tonight since he probably won't get it until after the 12th anyway. I hope they changed some of the color commentary. I'm getting a little tired of hearing "what he needs to do is complete a few passes and start controlling the defense" from Herbstreet after every incomplete pass. Or "quick, somebody get me a helmet quickly!" from Corso.
I use Blacklover. IMO, he does a better job on the rosters and I've heard some nasty stories on Linder. I have the MaxDrive, so that's what I use to get them. God I can't wait for this game.....
Don't pay for rosters, they'll be out on-line a week or so after the game is released. You can then use Action Replay or a similar device to get them from the computer to the console... Oh, and here are player ratings for most of the teams... http://www.maddenwars.com/ncaarosters/utep.php
You can send him the card still. The address is different so before you send it check his site. I tried Blacklover's rosters before and hated them. All he did was go through and add names. Linder changes the depth charts and adjusts player looks and attributes to make them more realistic.
Yeah, Linder always does the nice little touches like making sure FSU linebackers have their trademark neck rolls. I know it's trivial, but the little things make a huge difference to me.
Well, technically you're not paying for them. It's an optional donation. He'll still copy his card if you don't donate but I usually slip him a 5 spot for all his trouble. I've heard the Action Replay/Sharkport type devices are sort of tempermental. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. Plus aren't they kind of pricey? I mean for something I'm only going to use once a year. Man, I hope they have some I-AA conferences set up. I loved when the added all those schools last year but you still can't do a dynasty with a I-AA team unless you add them as an independent or to another conference. I want to take my Bearkats all the way to the I-AA Championship game!
All of BL's rosters have those little upgrades too. Last year he e-mailed me a few times to check the CU depth chart for him to make sure it was accurate. I guess as long as you have a roster you're happy with, to each their own. Just be careful out there. Mentioning BL on Linder's area or vice versa is like Crips v Bloods. Kind of scary.
Every year there's a lot of hype, I'm not getting my hopes up. It will be marginally better than last years, but the gameplay animations are what need to be updated more than anything. The tackles, blocks, celebrations, catches.. they're all getting really tired (and the commentary, as was mentioned before). The "impact player" thing is basically a changed version of the morale system they had in the last game. The heisman race thing sounds pretty pointless. The recruiting has been tweaked a little, but no huge wrinkles. I'm not going to do the DT Linder thing again this year, I don't really care if players from other teams dont have names, I can put the names into my prefered team myself, and probably do a more accurate job than Linder as well. I hope this game will work on xbox 360..
WHOAH! Looking at the rosters on the maddenmania site, Ginn for Ohio State has a speed of 99 and an acceleration of 99, too! Note to self....find a way to break his ankles if I ever play against OSU, either computer or human, as my opponent!
With MS licensing Nvidia tech, it sounds like MS will try their best to make all their Xbox games playable on the Xbox 360. Although, a game like this would fit under a "best-selling title," not to mention the fact that I doubt EA really did anything with the Xbox hardware that would make it difficult to be done on the Xbox 360. So I doubt you will have a problem there. FWIW, I kind of agree with you on your views of the game, but then again, I think pretty much the same game for any sports game that is sold every year, especially if it is from EA. I'm just hoping that EA doesn't reuse these same old animations, commentary, presentations, etc., on the new consoles. I wish we could move away from the mo-cap style of animation, although I realize that would require a lot of work and console power. Ragdoll physics in other games have gotten me spoiled.
Im excited. Quality of life improves drastically with the release of a new NCAA doesnt it? And those preseason college football mags always get my mouth watering to play the game too. Hopefully the deep ball is toned down and the running game is stepped up. If anyone here wants to play a straight, no glitch, no cheap plays style game online lemme know. My username is RAZCAN TAMU and ill probably be on playing 2005 til the 12th...
