I just got engaged a little over a month ago and we're planning on getting married in about a year. I can't wait! Registering for gifts is gonna be SO much fun... :D

Interesting. I wonder how that relates to various studies that indicate that 40-50% of all first marriages end in divorce, 60-70% of second marriages end in divorce and around 70-75% of third marriages end in divorce.

Were the men happy and then got backstabbed?!?! ;)

I got married at 27. I always knew unconsciously that my "experimentation phase" with women was just my way of finding the person that I wanted to grow old with, but finding her and realizing it was an interesting experience. We moved in together after dating for three months, I proposed three months after that, and we were married four months after that (we met many years before, but never dated).

I love a number of things about being married, but one of the biggest is the extra time. I spent nearly 80% of my life dating/flirting/wooing and was able to reclaim that time, give half of it to my wife and keep half for myself, giving me LOADS of time to spend having fun. I realize now how excruciatingly difficult and maddening the entire dating process is and will endeavour to remain married in large part because I never want to go through that process again.

Of course, the free time only lasted until we had our son, an experience that I would not trade for the world, but one that sucks up all time that was once free and teaches one about functioning while sleep deprived.

Most of all, I like knowing that I do not have to face the world by myself. No matter what happens (barring me doing something inordinately stupid), we are a team and we face life's challenges as a team.

Married my highschool sweetheart 17 years ago. Two kids, 2 homes and a few arguments later, we would still flunk calculus.

I would say that you are about 30-40% right ;)

Who is that? I don't mind you making fun of me, but I hate not knowing the punchline.

I was always nervous about getting married because of a general fear of commitment that I believe many men and women have...but then I met the right one and I proposed a month after we met. As stupid and cliche as it sounds, there really isn't anybody else in the world who could deal with me as well as she does. :)

    CONGRATS ON YOUR NUPTIALS!

As for me not married although have considered it a few times. Once for money and looks the other time for compainship and health insurance. Probably did the right thing not getting married in any of those occasions.

I'm in my mid-30's and personally don't think I'm ready for marriage I haven't found anyone who I could imagine spending the rest of my life with or vice versa. I'm pretty independent and don't feel the need to get married just to have someone keep me company.

I would like to have kids and would like to do so in a family so I figure I'll get married sooner or later

NBAHOU713, may I respectfully say you have a beautiful bride there, and may you and her go on to make a beautiful family. The wife-ah and I haven't had the cash to do the CHURCH thing, but we're hoping soon enough. Cheers! (below)

    Norm. Cheers.
