Apparently we have narrowed our PF choices to Swift / SAR / A. Walker / D. Marshall. Swift and SAR will definitely command much more than MLE and Boston would probably offer more than MLE to Walker (if he wants to return) and Marshall may also seek a little over MLE. The teams will not be trading with us unless we take one of their over paid unwanted contracts. Which realistic scenarios for S&T would you prefer and why?
I'm too lazy to probe all the possibilities but there is one unlikely scenario I will mention: Stomile Swift & Bonzi Wells from Memphis for some combination of our players & draft picks. The Grizz want to dump Bonzi, who has one year left on his contract. We should only do this if we strike out on other swingman/SG targets.
I am laughing just thinking about the possibility of JVG and Jason White Chocolate Williams. That should lead to many sleepless nights for Van Grumpy. I just can't envision that scenario.
What is the best S&T scenario to land our PF? Swift(@ 7-8M for 6yrs)+J.William (@7M for2yrs ) for Sura/James+ Wesley+expiring contracts STRO WILL BE OVERPAID BY SOMEONE. ADD J-WILL'S CONTRACT (BUY-OUT PROBABLY) AND SS IS OVERPAID + 25 MIL! SAR (@ 7-8 M for 6 yrs)+R. Patterson (@7M for 2yrs) for Ist in 2006+James+Wesley+expiring contracts THEY ARE NOT IN THE MKT FOR A 1, BUT WILL ENTERTAIN OFFERS FOR SAR + EITHER RP OR DA. THE PROBLEM IS SAR MAY BE AGREEING TO A NEW 'JERSEY'.SAR (@ 7-8 M for 6 yrs)+D. Anderson (@7M for 2yrs) for Ist in 2006+James+Wesley+expiring contracts A.Walker (@ 6-7 M for 5 years)+ Mark Blount (@5.0 M for 6 yrs) for Wesley+Spoon I COULD SEE MJ & WES FOR AW, BUT IF RAEF IS TO BE CUT THEN BLOUNT IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE. A.Walker (@ 6-7 M for 5 years) for Ist in 2006+Wesley+3M cash D. Marshal (@5-6 M/yr for 4 years) for Ist in 2006+Wesley+3M cash I SUSPECT ANOTHER CONTRACT WILL BE NEC FOR TOR TO SnT
If Boston trades Walker+Blount for the expiring contracts of Weley+Spoon then they do not have to waive Raef. They can simply waive spoon and let Wesley's contract expire at the end of the season. This will give them a lot of flexibility in the cap space.
As far as sign and trades go, Boston would want a point guard in return for Walker, which means Mike James would probably be a part of a package there. It would have to be Walker for James+expiring contract. It's hard to tell if the Grizzlies would do business with the rockets. I really don't know if they would do a deal. As far as portland goes, I would do SAR and Derek Anderson back, however, you have to sweeten the deal for Portland to get them interested in a sign and trade, because while they get Anderson off the books, they're also taking on salary to replace what they would've gained had SAR left w/o doing a sign and trade.
Portland would save 10M in salary (DE for 2006-7). They can waive say Spoon and save LT without waiving Ratliff.
As far as trade with Boston is concerned I would do a James+Baker+cash+Ist in 2006, but I think Boston would prefer to unload Blount. They can get their PG through free agency or trade.
I may be reading your post wrong, but if you are talking about the loophole that allows you to waive someone without counting against the luxury tax, that person has to have been on your team and not traded to you. If that's not what you are talking about then ignore this reply.
If wed can get walker via trade then we can target a free agent say B.simmons/A.Daniel/Mobley/D. Stoudamier to strengthen the back court.
