This afternoon at the Comets game, Malick was sitting there in the front row with a black nike bucket hat and watching the Comets almost blow a 12 point lead in the last 3 minutes. There have been a lot of NBDL and CBA level players in the Toyota Center working out over the past two days - but I haven't really gotten a close look so I don't know if Head, Badaine and/or Spanoulis are among them.
he was seated and slouching, but he looked .. . well long and wiry. similar to KG, but I know KG pretty well, and Malick is not close to KG's height or, er, length. It was difficult to tell when he's sitting down though, but having hung out with KG I'm going to say that Malick isn't quite that size.
Could it be the reason we passed on a power forward in the draft because CD felt Badman is better than any prospect we could have got at number 24. After all we're trying to get more athletic and he is a ton more athletic than Wayne. Plus CD keeps raving about his body type being similar to Garnett.
Thanks for the scoop yaomania ... He may not have looked it, but my guess is that Badiane is quite similar in height and length to KG -- He's around 6-11 and I think and his wingspan is his greatest asset. Hopefully he picked up a game along the way ... like any game. Checkers, even. People are too enamored with him because of his physical attributes and energy ... he showed he has a long way to go still the last time he played with our summer league team a couple of years ago.
I agree that he may not be THE answer, but he needs to learn the game from JVG and not from European coaches who focus on offense rather than defense. If he is to have any kind of chance to develop -- as the Rockets WANT him to develop, nay NEED for him to develop -- he has to do it here under tutelage by Rockets coaches.
thats why i really like the idea of sending guys to NBDL rather than Europe. Atleast they will be here and we will know how he is coming along.
I did some work with KG and Chauncey Billiups a couple of years ago. And I know the guys who run his foundation really well.
thanks alot yaomania...any info you can pass along would be awesome.. If he isnt ready yet to at least be a backup to the real team, I hope he keep him over here and make use of the NBDL...I think he would comea long alot faster working with NBA style coaches and players than he would over in Europe... Lets hope he has a good showing in the summer league...
I havent heard anything about Malick, how close is he to NBA ready? And what is his potential, could he be out starting PF in a few years or is he another DeSagana Diop?
That would be sweet. I'd actually go to the games if Malick was playing and I'd be cheering my butt off. As far as the NBDL is concerned, do teams send their players to the NBDL or do they have to tryout like everyone else?
