From a newly-posted Chad Ford article on ESPN Insider, Mr. Ford suggests that the Rockets are not quite done in retooling their backcourt after the selection of Luther Head; relevant excerpt below --------------------- The team is getting pretty deep in the backcourt with the addition of Luther Head in the draft (and the possibility of bringing over last year's second-round pick Vasilis Spanoulis, who had a great year in Europe), but that might not stop them from going after a point guard in free agency. They like (Marco) Jaric a lot and because of his versatility could easily play him alongside Head in the backcourt. More intriguing is their interest in (Jay) Williams, who has just begun playing five-on-five. If he continues to show improvement, he could be in training camp this year. Williams' agent also represents Yao Ming, which is why there might be a connection here. ---------------------- I think most interesting here is the interest in Williams; who had been rumored to have worked out favorably against Raymond Felton in private workouts around Chicago; I think Williams could be had on the ultra-cheap here, and he would definitely come into camp with something to prove... Of course, Chad Ford could just be reading Clutchfans.com, and plagiarizing Clutch's speculation that the Rockets could go after Williams... If he signs with Houston, at the very least, he would provide a better ballhandling option than Luther Head, and be a better passer off the bounce than Mike James... I think this could be very intriguing, IF TRUE....
The only way I could see the Rockets picking up another PG is if Sura or James gets traded. Also, before we add any more PG's on the roster, we need to buyout or do something with Moochie and Ward. I say we do that and add Jason (jay) Williams and Spanoulis to the summer league team and evaluate them in training camp and give whichever one is most impressive a backup job.
Don't remember when the interview was but didn't J Williams say he would go back to Chicago when he became healthy again because they did not cut up his contract after his accident ? I still can't wait to see what CD was talking about when he said we will understand more about the L Head draft in the coming days..... Hurry up CD and round out this team.
I don't remember Demarr's car wreck being as bad as JWill's motorcycle accident. I remember JWill having some pretty serious injuries and had some nerve damage in his legs. I would love to pick up JWIll though (if healthy). We know he can play the game, getting him back in shape and on the same page could turn him back into the star he was suppose to be.
He did break his neck and faced the possibility of being permanetly paralyzed. Thats pretty bad to me.
FYI, to the best of my recollection, Jason's injury was a fractured leg & hip, and nerve damage in his hip area... I don't think there were any injuries to his neck... Those injuries to his lower extremities is what makes his comeback more remarkable; as he did rely on his burst during his years in Durham & Chicago...
How many point-guards does Chad Ford think the Rockets need? This team needs a swing-man and a power forward more than another point guard. A power forward is even more important to the Rockets success than a swing-man.
It was reported here a few weeks ago that Chicago informed him that they no longer have a spot for him. I can't remember if it was substantiated or not. Seems like it was.
i thought jay williams openly stated that he wanted to try out for the rockets, when he gets back in playing condition. dude said the rockets were one of the teams he wanted to play for.
