Man on 2nd. Batter dribbles one to 3rd, and beats out the play. The runner doesn't stop at 3rd and dashes home, beating the throw. Base hit...and RBI? Or? Is it different if the batter bunted?
That guy on 2nd would have to be damn fast to do it, but I think it would be a base hit & rbi as long as there was no error made and there was an attempt to get the runner at home.
Base hit and an RBI ...positive it would only be a fielder's choice if the fielder had elected to cut down the runner at 2nd going to third or home ....then, the batter reaches, based on scoring, on a fielder's choice, regardless of whether the runner at 2nd was thrown out or not since the primary throw was made to 1st to get the batter out, then its a base it .....essentially, it would be the same as getting a base hit to the right fielder instead of a dribbler to the third baseman ........there is no distinction in the scoring ..the batter got a hit which resulted in a runner scoring, with no errors .....thats an RBI
If the runner on 2nd makes it to the 3rd successfully and decides to go for home after the batter's made it to first, he's no longer effects the batters stats as far as a hit is concerned. The batter would still have a hit if the runner got thrown out at home. Something I'm trying to remember: If a batter tries to stretch a single into a double and gets thrown out, does that count as a hit? Let's use the above scenario. The batter tries to advance to second on the throw home, and doesn't make it after the guy on second scores. I think he get the credit for a hit, but can't remember.
No he wouldn't. If the infielder makes no attempt to throw the runner at first, and instead, attempts to get the existing base runner at 3rd or home, then the batter reaching 1st safely is scored as a fielder's choice. Im 100% positive on that. Its scored as a single and then an out (outfielder assist to infielder). It would be scored as a single, with an RBI and then out at 2nd, 2-6 (assuming its the catcher to the shortstop for the out).
Yes. My most vivid recollection of this is a ball hit, by Marvelous Marv, sliced into the left field corner. Marv rounded 1st, rounded 2nd and was thrown out at 3rd. Ol' Case came out to argue, but the ump reportedly said something to the effect that yes, he was probably safe, but check out 1st. And 2nd. Basemen were calling for the ball as MM had missed him both. Marvelous Eugene Throneberry was credited with a double.
Ok, I agree with that. I was thinking the scenario was that the ball was thrown to first before being thrown home. I misread your post.
