Trade talk coming June 5 Houston Chronicle (scroll down): "The Rockets will be in the middle of conversations because they have a trade exception worth about $2.4 million from the Tracy McGrady trade that will expire June 30." http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/3211708 What will we do with this trade exception?? It would be a nice incentive for another team to make a trade that gives them an additional 2.4million on payroll. It would be stupid for Rockets management to throw it away!
I hope we use this, but only for a good reason. We shouldn't just use it to use it, but at the same time.... it's a helluvan opportunity to get something good in return.
What will we do? Probably nothing..... $2.4 M isn't really that much when evaluating NBA contracts. If we were to pull off some kind of trade exception deal it would likely be for a player on a rookie contract meaning teams will be unlikely to part with them unless there's added incentive for them. I looked at some salaries and the only ideas I can come up with are: Wilcox, Boris Diaw, Michael Pietrus, Jumaine Jones, TJ Ford (?), David West and Jared Jeffries. This is all pure speculation on my part, I just picked some mediocre or bust names still on rookie contracts that teams could POSSIBLY be willing to part with. Any other ideas? I'm not expecting anything to happen when push comes to shove.
We can package the exception with a player, right? So, if we traded Wesley and the exception, we could get a player who makes Wesley's salary plus $2.4 million.
IF he matures. we are trying to win now. while his athleticism would help, he is still raw and immature.
I think we'll let the TE lapse because of this quote from Dawson: "July 1 starts the next part of the process," Dawson said. "We've got free agents of our own (Dikembe Mutombo, Jon Barry, Scott Padgett and Ryan Bowen) we've got to talk to and address, and we're looking at other free agents. It's going to be an interesting summer." (http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/3247109). He's thinking about free agency right now, not the TE. Or, I'm reading too much into it.
So can we make two deals to do the trick or is it not allowed? trade Sura + Wes to get someone and use the TE to get Sura back?
Im pretty sure that it doesnt work like that.. but maybe if the other team released him (isnt that how portland got back brian shaw as part of the pippen deal with us?)
i'm with you on this. he is thinking about FA. the TE will most likely expire. we don't need to add anyone that cheap. we need to upgrade the 4, 2, 1. MLE will fill one of those. whoever we get in a trade for any of our guards will fill another whole. if we do that, i will be happy with the offseason.
its not quite that easy once a play is traded he cant be traded again for a 3 month period if im not mistaken. and you would have a disgruntled player anyways because nobody likes to be used in that manner so no thats never going to be possible even if rules allow it.
No, that is not an issue. A player can be traded the day after he arrives, with maybe some other stupilations (maybe only single player trades). I think the problem with this is the league has to review all trades and see if they are in the spirit of the rules, and they would see this as a blatant attempt to get around the rule that the TE cannot be combined with a player's salary to take a receiving player.
