Should be funny... This guy, basically, has to go and live with a Muslim family in Michigan and basically dress/act like a Muslim, and live the same lifestyle the family that will be hosting him lives. Should be pretty interesting
Morgan Spurlock: the answer to a question that no one asked. Seriously though, I enjoy his work, but sometimes it has me saying, "Duh."
Very interesting stuff. Pretty entertaining too, especially the reaction of the general public to David, that alone says a LOT.
Good show tonight. I was just disgusted that people would just say no to signing a petition to bascially not profile due to race or religion.
I know! It's being replayed right now and people wouldn't sign the petition! what the hell?! just sign it!
I like how at the end, the muslim host thought that guy flipped him off when he left: "no, he was saying 'peace' dude!"
I didn't catch the whole episode, but did they actually show anybody that signed the petition? I didn't, but no telling how many people actually signed it and they elected just to show the people who didn't. These documentary shows tend to be slanted sometimes.
That's very true. I'm sure there were people who signed it. It's just that it's too bad there were people who didn't, whether it was one person or a thousand.
I hope they show this episode again, becaue being from the Metro Detroit area it was interesting to see how the area would be portraied. One thing about Hamtramck is that there is still a huge blue collar population. It is actually surrounded by the city of Detroit and the majority of the reason it was able to stand on it's own was because of the Dodge plant built there in early 1920's. I was also REALLY suprised to see any Muslim buildings there since there is such a huge Catholic population there. The town was flooded with Polish imigrants when the plant went up. I mean this place is so Polish that Pope John Paul II lived there in the 60's and made a special trip there when he came to the states in the 1980's. And not to drag this into the D&D forum but these folks really drank the Bush Kool-aid on 9/11 and think that every Muslim is a potential terrorist. So it didn't suprise me to see people b****ing about the calls to prayer, sending death threats, and no one signs anything up here unless they really do support it. Being nice means closing the door in your face instead of chasing you off the porch. This is part of the reason no one is moving back to the city. The suburbs are much nicer. The further you get away from the city the better.
Thats how I feel about St. Louis. The further I can get away from this damn city the better. BTW, I got a gig in Houston again. I'm going home in two weeks!! Woo hoo!!
I know. He called me yesterday and left me a message. He says he has a couple of gigs lined up so I have a call into him to see if it is something that is better than what I have. Amy totally hooked me up with this job. I know Chicken Little can be kind of weird and he pisses me off sometimes but he and Amy have been incredibly good to me. I appreciate them more than they know. Would you be interested in coming down? It would be awesome to have a bunch of us back together.
I'm a muslim and felt Bush did an admirable job of stating the significant difference between a terrorist and a muslim. He stated many, many times that a small group of muslims were giving the large group a bad name. And I agree with him.
OK, like I said I'm not trying to start a debate here, I'm just telling you how they think. These people are my neighbors, not literally but you get my point, and I am just passing on how they have expressed their opinion on this subject to me.
A couple months ago I would have said yes, but this place is super cool. I really like the people and the way they work. I am actively pursuing a full time position here.
Guys, Good show indeed, although a bit misleading in some cases. For example: Islam does not require you to "wear" traditional Muslim clothing, and it doesn't require you to grow a beard either; both are called "sunna". As for the reaction of those people they talked to about the petition, and those who called on the radio show to talk to David, I REALLY recommend that you read a book by Edward Said, it is called "Covering Islam". It is a short book, but really great if you want to understand why when the average American is asked, "What first comes to mind when I say, 'Islam'?", they reply "terrorism". Oh, and here is a hint: it has nothing to do with Bush or Clinton or anyone else. It is a cultural phenomena that has lasted since the mid-70s or so. Again, I really recommend you read that book.
Anyone watching tonights episode? Me thinks these "naturalists" take things a lil too seriously........... Although, nothing beats watching a a NY roughneck shoot a rabbit with a pellet rifle
