I'm currently taking a home bartending class through my university this summer. I had always considered applyinig for bartending jobs in the past because I think I have a sociable personality and that I would enjoy doing it. While taking this class I've been thinking more and more that I'd actually like to go out and apply for bartending jobs for this upcoming fall semester. Anyone have any experience to share from being a bartender or any tips on getting a job as one? I'm not really sure I would approach trying to secure a bartending job.
I have a friend who worked as a bartender in France. He said the hardest part is making small talks to people when they are sh!tfaced.
If you enjoy working 9 pm until 4 am wed through sat (or thurs through sun) ~ bartending might be the job for you. There are better gigs as you gain experience, but when you start you will probably be working hours similar to these - you'll also more than likely start as a barback.
Yeah, I did for a little over a year at a bar in Soho. It was kind of fun, and the money could be pretty good. This was before a smoking ban and I felt really gross after a night in the bar, but nothing a shower couldn't take care of. The bar I worked at was mostly a regulars place that sold beer and shots, so I only had to make fruity sissy drinks on the weekends or occasionally if I was working for the after work crowd during the week. It was a learning experience.
