First thing we've agreed on in awhile. A Mike James clone. The problem is...they are also going to use Head at SG. As I mentioned to you before...I'm re-playing the DAL series with...never mind..... :(

Why do we need more short guards?

Our entire back court is under 6'4". I don't understand.

I guess Sura or Wesley is gone.

And we'll get a PF through trades.

Otherwise this pick will be one of the worst picks ever by Houston.

One thing I have to give this guy is that he is physical, something the Rockets have been lacking at the point for far too long.

You guys cannot forget that he has a 39" vertical and long arms.

That means, for all intents and purposes, he's more like a 6'6" guy with a 36" vertical.

I will gladly eat crow but Head will not be a Rocket for long. He will likely end up like Vanderbilt's finest, Dan Langhi or Valpo's gunner, Bryce Drew.

I am afraid that we will look back and regret theat we did not take Simmien or Walsh or Winston or Illyasova or CJ Miles.

I would have been fine with a 3-year project but now I am really depressed. It would have been better had it been I did not see a bunch of Illini games these last two years.

This blows. So for all these weeks and months I have been quitely waiting for the draft and this is what we get? Damn!

Heck I would have taken Chris Taft for goodness' sake.

The draft is such a crap shoot anyway, especially at #24.

Sometimes you get lucky (Cassell) and most often you get nothing. Who knows what will happen - longevity, toughness, clutchness, consistency...these are hard things to predict in a 22 year old much less an 18 year old.

One thing is for sure, if the guy works out, everyone calls CD a genious, if not, everyone will scan through the draft and find the guy that plays better and was drafted later and say "Why didn't they draft such and such???". Like anyone has a crystal ball!

All that being said, i don't think it's a bad pick. Our backcourt was ravaged by younger more athletic players against Dallas, and at 24, it's pretty unlikely you're going to improve upon Juwon Howard.

But we are desperate for quickness at the guard spots...MJ is just too wild and the rest need oxygen every 15 minutes. Geez, I mean, did anyone see how our backcourt performed against Dallas?

I definitely see why JVG would pick a guy like Head. He is a good shooter, a pesky defender, and just a very quick player. Not sure what position he will play and that's probably the only knock I have on him.

I think the Rockets should have gone with Simien though or even traded down. I can't wait to see Head and hopefully he can contribute.

I have to disagree. He's younger and more athletic than Sura, James, & Wesley. More speed & defense vs. Sura. More size vs. James. More size & speed vs. Wesley. The pick makes sense in light of our speed, athleticism & defense we need on the perimeter and appears to be a good 3pg shot.

This is what has me really excited about this guy. There's no way the Jason Terry's or Steve Nash's will be able to physically match up against this guy. He is absoultely solid...Yao needs to take some curl lessons from this guy. His arms are ridiculous. I'm excited!!! We finally made a smart pick by not taking a huge talent/huge head case guy.

    I'm ready for next season!!!

Head is a nice pickup at that pick: competitor, smart, can shoot and can D up.....great role player for this team. sure he is 6'3", but he will play point here probably and do some switching against smaller 2s.....based on what was there, he is one of the best shooters too....he is deft from long range.

this is even a better pick if there is a deal for a 4! then the head draft becomes more intriguing....

look at 24, you will see some kid rise to the time, but most of the time role players are in this slot..head is a great role player for this team. he brings shooting touch and intangibles....something you want in a role player....

I think it was good pick, not great but good role player move...

We better get a good PF through FA or trade. I will be pissed if we get a guy like Chris Anderson or some crap like that.

I see why we picked Head, but I think Miles will be better down the road.

Like all other picks, I'm willing to give him a chance and if it doesn't work out, some will become HOH's.

    From the NCAA Finals:
    *********
After building an impressive 15-point early second-half lead, the Tar Heels were clinging to a precarious 73-70 lead with only 17 precious seconds remaining. And the ball was in the hands of Head, the man who had almost singlehandedly shot the Illini back into this thing.

The senior guard had been stroking in jumpers from nearly every corner of the floor, dragging Illinois back from the brink, just like he'd done against Arizona more than a week ago. In the second half, he scored 15 of his team-high 21 points, shooting lights-out, defending like a desperate warrior and swishing in a 3-pointer to tie the score at 70 with only 2:39 left.

I wonder if we can dip in the second round and pick Alan Anderson? He could be a nice backup swingman who could help T-Mac guard some of the better SGs.

Just another thought, not sure what the history of guys going at 24 are but another thing I like about Luther Head is that he has been a part of a pretty good program and been an instrumental part of their success.
