The district I work for has recently decided to do some evaluations on MAC systems. Since I am the tech supervisor for my campus I have to look at the systems and determine how/if we are going to use them. I have a laptop to play with for a few weeks and so far I really like it. I am starting to get used to the little differences between XP and OS X, but I know there are some really cool things you can do with a MAC (open source stuff). Any of you MAC users have any suggestions? Also, I need a good chat client for the draft chat tonight, I use and abuse MIRC for the PC but need a MAC equivalent, what should I use?
I tried looking for a chat client on my Mac about 3 or so years ago and all the ones I saw were weak in comparison to mIRC or even Microsoft's chat client. Back then I know I tried something like Snak or something. I also tried one other one that I don't recall the name of, but I remember I didn't like it much. Maybe there's something better out now.
For unix tools, check out the Fink project. As far as chat tools, I use irssi, but its a command line tool, so you might not like it.
For easy open-source fun, install fink. For a while I was running KDE on top of Aqua. That filled the memory quick... http://fink.sourceforge.net/
*cough*Tried it*cough*didn't like it Actually I believe that may have been the 2nd one I tried. I'll revisit it when I get the chance.
