    Orangeburg, South Carolina.

Boy do I stick out like a sore freakin' thumb.

I'm getting all kind of funky looks at the hotel, the grocery store, and the local bar.

    I'm stuck here 'till Friday.

So, it looks like my nights will be spent reading every thread on this site... TWICE!

Could be worse... you could be an Indian dude at Woody's Smokehouse in Centerville, Tx.

Actually, I kid... those people in Centerville are always nice to me. :)

    Oberservation:

I went to Subway. They asked if I wanted cheese on my Veggie Delight. I naturally said no. They proceed to put vegetables on my sandwich before I interrupt and say "Wait, I want regular mustard on that."

The lady behind the counter stares at me like I just tried to explain Avogadro's Number and said "you want it NOW????"

I guess things are done differently here. Plus, she put spinach on my sandwich!

    spinach fer chrissakes!

I feel out of place. I wanna go home.

damn that sucks. and green day says that they want to be a minority.

it still doesnt make sense how people dont consider indians and other asians minorities when it comes to job hiring and school admissions. but we'll keep this out of D & D.

be safe, and tell unca' jack, hello for me.

What's that? Yes I know I COULD do a search, but I figured I'd help you pass some time from being stereotyped by my ignorant white brothers and sisters.

Or you could conduct some just for fun field studies and go into a local ammo shop looking for really off the wall weaponry, then come back and post the reactions you get.

I don't want to be considered to be a terrorist!

Plus, there's a confederate flag flying right outside!

They have spinach at the Subways now in Utah, but they're relatively new. They never put it on unless you specifically ask for it, though.

But they always put the sauces on last. I just assumed it was company policy now. (Subway has changed a lot up here since I moved from Texas) They don't do the stamps thing anymore, they have some kind of Credit Card like thing instead.

If you're getting funny looks.....too late. They probably already think you are Osama's right hand man and are planning on flying airplanes into their prestigious bingo parlor.

To elaborate, it's the number of units in one mole.

You should hit up some of the local watering holes. Or at least kick it at the hotel bar.

It's always an adjustment to be a racial minority in any given situation. Whether it's an Indian dude in South Carolina or a white dude who goes to Willowridge High School.

Sorry you feel out of place. Try to enjoy yourself, though.

I was in Columbia, South Carolina last October for an advocacy class set up for prosecutors by the Department of Justice and I really enjoyed the people I met in and around town. It's a pretty state.

It is, in fact, a very pretty state.

Lush green and lots of golf courses.

Too bad its raining, or I'd go exploring. Oh well, I have all week.

I am Asian but born here (in Oklahoma) and spent my childhood in...New Mexico. I never realized it before, but on a recent trip back (I live in CA now), i realized that everyone was white.

There was no racism or **** like that, but everyone who walked by was like woah, what are they doing here?

    I can't believe i didn't notice that when i was a kid.

    They sell fireworks EVERYWHERE here.

And people are buying them and lighting them up in the grass fields only a few feet away from the fireworks stand!

I think I have something to do tonight.

Now, how to discreetly put "fireworks" on a corporate expense report?
