i've recently been infected with spyware and i had a tech guy at my office try to remove it. he booted the comp in safe mode and he said that spyware stuff was still coming up even in safe mode which he hasn't seen before. they are gonna work on my comp more after the close, but i was curious if anyone had any suggestions. i have MS antispyware and ad-aware and neither have got rid of all the spyware. also i dunno where i could have got the spyware from since i don't visit that many different sites....could have been ebaumsworld but other than that i am clueless.
Stop looking at prawn. I just fdisk my computer at home because my wife keeps clicking yes to all those stupid pop up prompts and I couldn't fix it.
Try doing Start>Run>Type in MSCONFIG Click on the startup tab, uncheck any suspecious programs Restart, temp fix for now If you know what type of Spyware it is, check the following site: http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/database.html Click on which program thats installed, and it'll tell you how to manually remove it.
What Dave2000 said, and simply try checking your programs list as well. A whole lot of people forget to do that.
Run these 4 programs in this order. Spybot Search & Destroy, Ad-Aware, Microsoft Anti Spyware and finally Spy Subtract. You likely won't find anything on the Microsoft Anti Spyware step because Spybot and Ad-Aware should have gotten most of them. However, if it is something more serious, Spy Subtract should clear up those pesky, leftover spyware problems.
I think Clamwin is pretty good. One time I ran Ad-ware, MS antispyware, Spybot, AVG and Clamwin all at the same time. All of them said my PC was absolutely clean except Clamwin which found a trojan.
Sounds to me you ahve the same problem I had....my wife downloaded some program and it had a bundle called IEPlugin. I can't remeber what the address was, but I typed in IEPlugin on google and found a removal tool on Symantec's site. Ran that tool, and have had no problem since.
I am running these four free anti-spyware softwares: spybot,ad-adware,spyware doctor and spywareblaster. You can download them on download.com. One of the little known secret about running anti-spywares is that you shall run them in the safe mode for quite a lot of stealth-wares are undetectable in the normal mode. Hope this help.
Since they all work differently, be a little careful what you delete when you run different spyware programs. One crucial deletion and headache ensues....
Google can. http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=RNWE,RNWE:2005-12,RNWE:en&q=spysubtract
