    No Finley, please.

He does not play defense. His offense is so-so.

exactly. if it's going to be a contract on the cheap, why wouldn't we? spending that money is smarter than giving charlie ward ANY KIND OF MONEY. Finley is still good from the long range and, come playoff time, we can say "ok we can put finley in for a few minutes" rather then "ok we can put padgett in for a few seconds"

I have to wonder how the owners decided they wanted to do this. It's good for Dallas and New York, who can dodge some luxury tax. It's good (potentially) for the two contenders who pick up Houston and Finley on the cheap. But, for the other 26 teams, it sucks. That's less luxury tax payout that is going to them. It also means the championship contenders have a good opportunity to get stronger. Why would most NBA teams want an exception that screws up parity of competition and gets them less money? The only possibility I can think of is that perhaps those contracts won't be counted in figuring if the luxury tax will be triggered or not, so they could potentially dodge the lux tax altogether if it's close. But, I don't know if that's even the case.

If this loop hole is true, I have a feeling that the NBA is going to be like the NFL in that veterans with large contracts being cut to fit under the salary cap. The only difference is that there won't be any large signing bonus like the NFL, cuz all the money is guaranteed. But teams are going to be more likely to sign players to low short term money and big long term deals, if it is not going to hurt cap space in the long run, especially if team has money.
Personally, I like Finely and he would add a great veteran presence to the team.
