Pacers send Stephen Jackson, Jamaal Tinsley, Fred Jones, and Scot Pollard to Seattle for a sign and trade on Ray Allen and Luke Ridenour and Seattle’s 2nd round pick this year. A poster on the IndyStar form claims a source within the Pacers claims that this may happen. There is no question that Larry Bird covets a big-time pure shooter. This in my opinion favors Indiana by a good margin, except for the issue of Ray Allen's max-contract demands. Thoughts on who gets the better of this one, if it happens?
Indy easily gets the better end of that deal. They get the best player in the trade in Ray Allen, plus Luke Ridenour was impressive in the playoffs this year. I don't know what the hell Seattle is thinking unless they really have no way of re-signing Allen(for which they have no one to blame but themselves).
Ray Allen is still under contract with Seattle until July 1. He can't make any sort of negotiations with Indiana at this time. Any discussions of a sign and trade would be thoroughly illegal. I'd call it bogus, especially because of the draft pick- negotiations with Allen can't begin after the draft, and Seattle can't draft for Indiana.
Seattle will be idiots if they can't sign Allen and he gets away for nothing. If they are going to lose him anyway, S. Jackson and Tinsley are not bad for Ridenour, although I don't see how that helps them get bigger, which is their main concern.
Whether this has any truth in it or not, I have been told (reliably, I believe) that Pacers plan to keep Artest but break up the RA/JT/SJ 'clique'. I hope this deal eventuates because I believe the Sonics would be the 'loser', but -- this is probably totally speculative.
due to what NIKE said (though why would allen negotiate with indy instead of sea) i can't see how this has substance at this point, but i guess since it's almost a foregone conclusion allen will get the max there's really not much to be figured out on his end of the money situation. if it happened, o'neal, artest, allen on the same team? with any sort of health and a decent pg, doesn't that team represent the east in the finals?
Much better than letting him walk but i think the Sonics have no chance of repeating their sucess this year with that roster.
That would be a DREAM trade for Indy and a TERRIBLE trade for Seattle. I mean not only is losing Allen bad enough for Seattle but Ridnour too? Not a chance! I dont doubt that Bird wants to add another "star" player to Indy's team, but my guess is to do that he is going to have to give up someone with more value like Artest in the deal. I dont think Jackson/Tinsely/Jones type deals are going to get it done.
I could easily imagine a conversation between the two teams after July 1. Especially since Ray Allen would be "plug & play" into what Reggie did in the Pacer offense. IND could sweeten things up a bit...Jeff Foster and/or future picks. There are some interesting forces at play. SEA could have significant FA $...but only if Ray Allen's rights are renounced. The ? for SEA (in any SnT) is...are the players offered better than what we could get with the cap space Allen's departure creates.
This trade isn't so ridiculous if you consider Seattle could let Allen get away for nothing. If you take Tinsley and Ridenour out of the picture, it makes some sense. If the Sonics don't re-sign Allen, they will have a hard fall this coming season. Doing a SnT is their best hope, and obviously they will not get equal value. I'm very biased and will be happy if the Pacers pull this off. Ridenour, Allen, O'Neal, Artest (ugh) & Foster as a starting lineup with Carlisle as coach has NBA Finals written all over it. Go Pacers.
i think the answer is yes. tinsley is a better option than any FA PG this summer. while there are a number of better SG's that are FA's SJ is still pretty damn good.
