Not sure if this belongs in NBA dish but since SAR was one of our potential signees... The Cavs have a lot of money to offer, definitely much more than us. This is going to be a very interesting summer.
Quote: Abdur-Rahim's zeal for Cavs tied to 'Z' Friday, June 24, 2005 Roger Brown Plain Dealer Columnist If the Cavs don't re-sign cen ter Zydrunas Il gauskas - and they shouldn't - it will definitely hurt their chances to land at least one attrac tive free agent this summer. Aaron Goodwin, agent for Portland star Shareef Abdur-Rahim, says while his client is "definitely interested" in signing a free-agent deal with the Cavs, the forward's enthusiasm will cool considerably if Cleveland doesn't keep Ilgauskas, another potential free agent. "[Abdur-Rahim's interest] changes if they lose [Ilgauskas]," Goodwin says of the Cavs. Last season, Abdur-Rahim averaged a solid 16.8 points and 7.3 rebounds per game for Portland. While he's approaching his 10th NBA season, Abdur-Rahim is only 28 years old. ----- What this says is (a) SAR is chasing the money (looking into a team with cap room while playing GM for his prospective spenders) and (b) if he demands a 5 then where can he possibly land? Shaqville has no $ as Yaotown does not either. So, SnT or MLE with a Van Gundy.
It is interesting to note that SAR's interest with the Cavs would LESSEN if Z wasnt around. Basically saying SAR wants to play PF next to a LEGIT C. Who else has a legit C?
If Gooden does get dealt, would that be 4 teams in his first 4 years? Something's gotta be up w/ this kid.
if he wants to go to the cavs of all places, something has to give. its cold. they suck. they already have gooden. weird. i would rather have marshall anyway.
Yeah, because playing with the biggest rising star in the league in the inferior conference has absolutely no appeal what-so-ever.
it would make more sense for a vet to want to go to a contender. or at least a team that doesn't have a PF. why not miami? new jersey? us obviously? it makes sense comming from SAR. he has never been on a winning team. so why sign with one now?
Cleveland would have made the playoffs if they didn't fire Paul Silas. Sure, they've squandered two playoff births under the LeBron regime but I don't expect that to happen again. Cleveland will be a force for years to come. It's not like SAR is old, he's only 28 anyways.
And like the Cavs, we also have a superstar swingman along with our legit C. Of course we are also a much better team with a stable coaching staff, classy management and sane owner. If SAR is interested in a team like the Cavs then I don't see why he wouldn't be interested in the Rockets.
I'm sure he is, he just wants to drive up his price! You know, start some competition for his services.
He has a sever case of ADD. T-Mac knows all about it. Drew can't maintain focus for the duration of the game. Sometimes he forgets what plays are supposed to be run and that drove Doc Rivers and Paul Silas nuts
actually, I think that move is saying he wants to win even if it drives his asking price down? demanding cavs retain big Z means he is accepting the fact that they would have less cap room to sign him if Z returns...
The Cavs have LeBron and large cap money. They could be the most attractive team for UFAs. Can you believe that? The Cavs?
