    He basically said:

    1. They were going to look at the FA to get an impact player that would fit into the type of ball that would compliment TMac and Yao.

    2. He also stated that we were looking at all positions 1-5, that the league is becoming more of a speed and not a power league.

    3. He also stated the flexibility now that we have with the short contracts we have...

    4. Sounds like we`ve got a lot going on, because it sounded like he was holding back a lot.

I have a feeling we`re getting a PF via FA and draft the best player available through the draft.

I like the sound of that! "FA impact player."

Totally agree! The league is more of a speed league. Yao isnt going to get much quicker so we need quicker players around him. That means a quicker PF than a bruiser PF.

    Me too.

He said that the Rockets wish they could go after free agents first and then have the draft.

I agree that the Rockets will probably get the best athlete available. Lindsey even mentioned possibly trading down if they can get the right assests for doing it.

I thought he said he liked where they were and would ONLY thinkn of trade down if they could get the right assets

    I caught the interview.

They(610 guys) asked him about getting a pf at 24, and that two names being talked about a lot with us at 24 were Simien, and Turiaf. Dennis said that they were looking at a lot of pf's in that range. He rattled off names like Diogu, May, Warrick, Bass(Brandon), Maxiel, Lee, and Taft(iirc).

He didn't say that they were going to look for a fa pf for sure. What he said was that they would have to weigh what they could get in the draft versus what they could get by other avenues(trade, fa). Said that they wished the fa period was before the draft so they knew what positions they could fill there first. Also stated that they could conceivably draft any position there at 24.

He said that they will look for certain characterictics in players to compliment Yao, and Tracy, and that JVG(and co.) feel that the league is morphing into more speed, and less power. He said they would be looking for speed, athleticism, good decision-making, and outside shooting. Said that after the trades last year that even though they got older they got faster. Talked about Barry, and said that even though Matt(host) could probably beat him in a foot race that his dribble-pass-shoot decision making was elite. He meant that JB made the decision on which one to do very quickly.

They asked him if they thought that a lot of the players in the late 1st-early 2nd were pretty equal, and if they had thought about trading down a few spots, and picking up an extra 2nd or something. Dennis said that they had actually considered it briefly but that they would have to receive a "quality asset" to do so. He also said that they felt pretty good about the players at their spot now.

No one asked about Badiane or Spanoulous.

(Sorry if any of this is repeat info. Slow typer.)

Cool, thanks for the info. I think it is clear the Rockets will be looking for the best available player at #24 with it most likely being a swingman or a PF. My hunch is it will be a swingman.

I've been hearing a lot about the hustle of Alan Anderson from the late second round. I think he fits the JVG mold for a SG real well.

Is anyone going to say "We're looking to sign a redundant FA" or "We're looking to sign a non-impact FA"? You would hope that EVERY FA signing is an "impact" one.

If we are indeed looking for a PF in FA and a swingman in the draft, and we can expect a trade of wesley and sura around draft night...

that leads us to believe that we will be trading for a G.

    let the specualtion begin!

no, you said "Lindsey even mentioned possibly trading down if they can get the right assests for doing it." - implying that the rockets were possibly looking to trade...

I took Lindsey as saying that the rockets were NOT looking to trade at all (he said that they liked what would be available at 24) However, when asked about trading down, he said if they felt they could get the right assets - only then would they even consider it

..in order words they are happy with 24 and are not shopping the pick.. - of course this probably means they are making a trade

What I don't like is all the secrets on who was worked out - is this par for the course, or were they working out some top lottery level talent in anticipation of a trade ???

Thanks for all the updates guys.

My take is that the Rockets will be looking for a PF through free agency and will pick up an athletic swingman in the draft. I think a PF is way too important for the Rockets to rely on a rookie. That's just my thoughts.
