Did anyone see the interview w/ Stoudamire lastnight on Channel 2? He was in town for some charity baseball game. Cassell, Steve, TMac, Stoudamire, and MJ were all there. Anyways, the reporter asked him about his take on the Rockets and it seemed like he really likes this team and wants to be here. I could obviously be thinking bias, but he talked about playing w/ TMac and Yao. He said that we are moving in the right direction and that we are just missing a couple pieces. He also said how people forget that he has played w/ TMac before in Toronto. To me, that's a pretty big indicator that he wants to play for us, cause he really had no other reason to bring it up. Berman also asked John Lucas about what he thought and Lucas said that Stoudamire would be a good fit w/ TMac and Yao.
Damon did say he wanted to play for the Rockets. He was at the Fonde all the time last summer and people asked him all the time, he said the rockets never showed major interest. As for Damon Stoudamire he's in Houston all the time. He seems to spend the majority of his offseason here. I see him at Fonde a lot too and friends of mine say they see him at the clubs.
Ofcourse, he doesn't have a contract so he wants to play for ANY team. What did you expect him to say?
So I guess that any FA that says anything about a team he is interested in, it is just BS right? I guess we shouldn't listen to anything a free agent says then. In that case, Atlanta should be contendors next season since they have a ton of money and FA's don't care at all who they play for. I heard Ray Allen is sucking up to the Atlanta media because he is so desperate to feed his starving children.
A FA has a vested interest to have as many teams vying for his services as possible. It drives up his value and potential contract. A FA saying positive things about a particular team is not a reliable indicator especially since he was specifically asked about the Rockets. If he said something bad that would be completely different though. If Ray Allen was in Atlanta talking to the local media and they asked him what he thought about the Hawks I'm sure he would have nothing but positive praise for their team.
So why did he mention he has played w/ TMac before? Did you see the interview? To me, it sounded like Stoudamire was trying to imply something to the Rox. He wouldn't have mentioned that he played w/ TMac in Toronto unless he was interested. But he wouldn't say "People forget that I've played with Predrag Drobnjak before, so..." unless he was interested and trying to state he has had some kind of relationship w/ some of the players.
Heh, I didn't even catch that. I'm not the one to say "I told you so," but Stoudamire seemed interested when he was being interviewed. I hope we do pick him up, he would be a nice veteran that can shoot and pass better than Sura.
Clutch needs to stop being so sneaky and put this type of info in the forum instead of forcing us to go to the front page every time
tough call....i like Damon but i like the Sura-James combo as well...given Sura's injury history, maybe its not a bad idea.
I say ... no deal. Mighty mouse put us through the ringer back when he was with Toronto, and basically we got screwed and he went to Portland. Not happy in Portland? Too bad. It's 5+ years later, and now that we have something going, and he's LESS of the player than he used to be, he wants to play alongside TMAC and Yao? Yeah, I'll bet. and his comment about us being one or two pieces away... well... is a 5'10" addition really our best opportunity? I used to be big on this guy, but after he went to Portland, I lost interest. I know he's had a decent go of it lately, but I don't think a 5'10" PG is the answer.
He may not be the answer, but he could be part of it. Stoudamire is a better shooter and passer than Sura. He might be less of a player than he use to be, but he still manages to put up 16 & 6. If he would come for cheap, I don't see what harm he could do.
stoudamire is still a quick and athletic PG but i like mike james better because he can defend much better. if we get a guard we need a taller and longer athlete at the 2 spot. not a small PG. already have a bunch of older PG's, don't need more.
I agree he'd be an upgrade, but I don't think he's the best choice... personal preferences/feelings aside, he's still 5'10". -CrazyDave
and do you think he'd come here on the cheap? relative term, and somehow I doubt it. Maybe there's a fine line between "no deal" and "Well, ok, for that much it's worth a look".
