you dont? were you wearing your darth vader or c3po costume when you typed this? perhaps my "makes star wars look like a piece of crap" comment was over the top. i thought star wars was great. much better than the first two and i actually like it better than return of the jedi. i guess im comparing the two b/c they are the last two movies i saw. both are "summer blockbusters". both films have a very dark mood/tone to them and i think that overuse of digital effects in star wars took away from it. i was citing batman as an example of a movie where they actually didnt totally rely on digital effects and when they did, they were very well done. in this day and age, its very refreshing. my main problem with the last 3 star wars (aside from some of the dialogue) has been the feeling that too often im watching some computer video game rather than a movie. the digital effects were too obviously computerized. i think the old 70's/80's models looked alot cooler and it would have provided some consistency b/t the movies. i never got that feeling with batman.
I saw it today. I really enjoyed it except for the theater experience. There were some people behind me who had a three year old kid. Of course the kid wouldn't shut up crying etc. and I turned around and the moronic father flipped out and YELLED "What the hell are you looking at!" like he wanted to fight. I then remembered why I don't go do movies very much. The movie was good, but of course some stupid ****er and his kids almost had to ruin it for me. I think I'll go back to waiting for the dvds. The new Star Cinema Grill in Clear Lake doesn't let kids unde five in. So I guess there is hope.
Batman took place on earth, in this galaxy. In fact they tried to make it seem more "real" to separate it from the other Batman, no? That's why. Star wars is complete fantasy with aliens an stuff in outer space. A video game would be very fitting. I liked Star Wars more.
I had nearly the same exact experience. I'm no longer going anywhere but Alamo Drafthouse to watch movies.
I've been wanting to try that place. Better than the Alamo experience, I wonder? (Certainly much closer for me) In any case, now that I've seen it, I was pleased with it. The fight scene style I still don't like - never have - and it was the biggest distraction from the film. Loved the realistic angle, and how seriously it was handled. Suffered a little from the 'setup' slowdown that first movies do, but it gets me really looking forward to the next two.
The natural response would be to shoot him. I finally saw SW yesterday and it was the most pleasant theater experience I ever had. Noone said a freaking thing the whole time. It felt like a home viewing. It was great to watch SW with zero interruptions. Afterwards, I took names and numbers saying we'll all get together for Batman next weekend at the same theater. Or, I wish I did. That was at a Plano Cinemark location. I guess they were all on heroin or somethin'.
Best Batman movie of all, Enjoyed every second of it. Just wished they woulda had the Joker killer Bruce's parents to set the movie up better. Best movie of the summer.
BEST BATMAN MOVIE EVER! I missed the first 25min of the movie because we didn't get to the theater till 11:30 pm, but saw most of it. It was damn good. Best part? ..... ~~~~~~Perhaps Spoiler~~~~~~ . .. ... .... ... .. . .. ... .... ... .. . .. ... .... ... .. . The halucination scenes!
QUESTION: I spoke with a friend on this this weekend IFyou want a complete silent movie experience . . . why do you goto the theater IMO the theater is a SOCIAL experience the people talking is part of it. . . . but some folx act like they want the theater to themselves Why not wait until u get the DVD ? Rocket River
The absolute best time to go to the theatre is during the week while everyone is at work. Unfortunately, many of you probably have regular 9-5 jobs so that's not an option. Sorry. Anyway, how was the movie's score? I loved the one Danny Elfman did for the '89 movie, does Batman still have a theme on par with Superman's?
Because very few people have a tv room/theatre in their house that compares to the theater. You can also look at it the other way...if you want it as a social experience, wait until the DVD comes out and invite people over to your house to watch it. I don't mind a little chatter as long as it isn't too distracting. The one time I recall getting pissed is during "Coach Carter", a girl behind us had her phones ringer on, and when it rang she not only let it ring several times, but then proceeded to answer it and carry on a conversation for several minutes. Now THAT pissed me off. But seriously, if you want a social experience go eat or hang out somewhere if you want to talk and whatnot.
at the movies I loved to discuss the movie in quiet tones with my friends if it is a silly movie. . i make wise cracks I hate being at the movie with a friend and neither of use speak during the whole thing My point is . . why are we seeing it together If we not going to communicate or have any interaction during it Rocket River I understand your point though
Ha maybe I was But I think both films were tremendous sucesses, and like I said, the two can't really be compared. SW heavy reliance on effects was necesary because of the story it was trying to tell. Batman on the other hand was aiming for realism. He's one of the few superheroes (if not the only one) w/o any superpowers so the attempt to create an enviornment and story grounded in reality is a necessity. Therefore, the film didn't need to rely on digital effects the way SW did. I hope I'm never in the same theater as you then But seriously, I love going to the movies w/ my friends because we can enjoy the experience together, which doesn't require talking throughout. LOTR, SW, HP, Matrix...wouldn't nearly as enjoyable if I didn't see them w/ my friends. Talking just gets in the way of whats happening on the screen and is irritating to the people that paid to see a movie, not listen to someone's conversation. The only exception to the rule is audience reaction... like at the end of Batman Begins, when the credits began to roll and the whole theater erupted in applause... and you could feel it... Batman was back! Oh and about the Joker thing... I don't think Joker killed his parents in the comics, it was just a regular thief. Plus, Batman Begins is a new start for the franchise...forget everything about the other series.
clapping at the end is corny and true. . .if we in the same theater together one of us would probably be irratated It did not say talking through out. . but SOME interation Rocket River
...made "only" $71 million over the five days. Ironically, I think it would have made more money had it debuted on a Friday. Those drug hallucination scenes were pretty intense, and the parents who saw it on Wednesday were probably turned off by it and told their friends to take their kids to see something else. My only beef with the movie was how blatantly the sequel was set up at the end. ...a little off topic, but did anybody else see the trailer for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? I was a little disappointed. I keep hearing that the movie is darker like the book, but the trailer made the movie seem like a G-rated disney movie...
Some interaction is one thing. Cell phone talking, trying to be louder than the movie, having your own conversation during the film, kicking backs of other people's seats, thinking you're funnier than the movie and trying to prove it to everyone else, making jokes during serious moments, bringing your screaming toddlers to an R-rated film and refusing to take them outside when they start wailing, on the whole being a disrespectful ass to everyone around you....that's a different thing. That's the kind of stuff I think most of us are talking about when describing our displeasure with the theater experience.
My kids took me to see it @ Grauman's Chinese for Father's Day. (Plus Pink's for lunch ) I thought it was great. It was too intense for my youngest. He's six. I would rank it right behind the Spidermans. I thought they were great. As an aside, the premiere for Herbie was going on at the El Capitan across the street, and we saw LL.
All I have to say is WOW! Freaking amazing movie. Probably in my top 15 of favorite movies. I cant wait to see it again..... Seriously the best comic book movie hands down.
