I don't think anybody has mentioned him, but if I remember correctly, I saw on ESPN that Orlando terminated his contract. I know we want to get younger, but Grant Hill for about 25-30 minutes a game for about 60-65 games is an upgrade. Take in the fact he is an excellent mid range shooter, another ball handler and team guy, he probably would come cheap if he is a free agent. Also, I hope the Rockets get younger through draft, by drafting a young forward (probably Hakim Warrick) and using one of the trade exceptions to get late in the first round for a point guard (hopefully Jarret Jack). What do u guys think?
What?? I looked on ESPN, but cant find anything.. anyone have a link... I think he would be a great pickup for the right price..
According to my information, no link though, Grant Hill has a player option. Don't know if he is going to pick it up or not. Frankly he certainly owes Orlando his time if he is going to give it away. That is, unless they disrespect him somehow and chase him away. 1. Grant Hill (Player Option) This comes from one site's ranking of availalbe SF's. He was #1.
I searched ESPN and Google News and couldnt find any articles about this. Where did you hear about it again?
Considering his contract, ... I am sure if has a player option then it is probaly for about a (how do you spell?) gageelion dollars.. He'll probaly be picking it up. BUT Gotta love G Hill but gotta be scared of his health.
Hill has a player option for 05-06 so I can't see how ORL would have "terminated" him...it's his choice. What may be negotiable from Hill's perspective is the 05-06 player is for $15+m which locks him into a 06-07 contract of $16+m. He may have some guilt about taking the money when he was unable to play and agree to a lesser amount for not taking the option.
I might have been mistaken, but I look at this way, Antonio McDyess a guy who has been injured worked out really well for Detroit, a team of veterans, who can contend for a championship with a solid core. Our foundation of Yao and Tracy, should attract veterans who not looking for $$$, but for championships. If he has a player option, he would have to be a special guy to walk away from 16 mil.
I can't say whether or not he picked it up, only that he had a player option. Just like Vin and Padgett. Maybe he just wants out the crazy house over there. It doesn't mean he'll be coming here though. Maybe Miami. Who knows?
I have always liked Grant Hill and I have tons of respect for him. I don't see him coming to Houston. Call it a hunch. I don't think the Rockets will take the risk.
An upgrade where? He's not quick enough to play shooting guard, he's not big enough to play power forward. The Rockets traded Jim Jackson essentially so they could move T-Mac to small forward and that's when we started winning. I could possibly see JVG moving T-Mac back to the 2 guard for somebody who seems to epitomize his system and style of play (like Ron Artest for example), but I can't imagine them moving T-Mac out of position for guys like Bobby Simmons, Grant Hill, or numerous other small forwards that have been proposed. Maybe I should have just said, "I don't see how he's an upgrade when he plays one of the only two positions in which we don't need an upgrade."
No f'ing way. From a fan's standpoint, I think Grant Hill should have renogotiated his deal or taken injury retirement. His contract was insured, but he just tanked the Magic. Think how good they could have done without him.
JVG would probable have him play PG for us. honestly though, we have to remember that tmac will allways be a SF. hill can't guard SG's, can't hit the 3....not exactly what we need. also, he will most likely pick up his option. who will walk away from 15 mil? what is he going to get in FA...the mle...
If Grant Hill was on our team, I don't think we'd hesitate to move McGrady back to SG. He's just as good there. That said, I'm not thinking Hill is coming here anyway.
Even though this thread is a bust, it's too bad Wisebrood is gone. We could've probly gotten Hill this offseason for Wesley and change.
i disagree. tmac was not just as good at SG. he has trouble guarding smaller quicker players. offensively he might be better at SG because he can shoot over them or post them up, but against SF's he can use his quickness to get open or get to the baskett. hill would hurt our offense because he cant hit a long range shot. it is the same as having bob sura out there. hill is good at a lot of things but like francis he won't get to show it. JVG has his two stars and everyone else will be just a role player. i agree that hill won't be a rocket anytime soon so the whole point is moot anyway.
How many ways is this a bad idea? Lets see: 1. He plays the same position as TMac (most important) 2. He's old 3. He hasn't been healthy in 175 years 4. He's expensive 5. We'd probably need to deal w/ Weisbrod again at some level to make it happen 6. It doesn't solve our glaring holes at PG or PF 7. He's a defensive liability at his age and health 8. Not a great spot-up shooter which we'll need Should I continue?
There's no chance of us ever getting Hill, but I do think he would be a great addition. Hill is still an excellent playmaker, which is what this team is really lacking. He has the skills to play the point guard role on this team. He can handle the ball, penetrate, create shots for others, basically be the floor general for this team. Having another playmaker on the team to do those things allows Mcgrady to not have to play the point guard role and focus more on scoring.
