^^^ actually it isn't. they mentioned this on outside the lines a week ago. if he doesn't hire an agent and gets drafted he is still an amueter. as long as he doesn't sign a contract with an nba team he can do whatever he pleases. i know it sounds strange but that's what they said.
The Larry Coon NBA CBA faq says the following. http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#40 Maybe the NCAA rules have changed but that'd be news to me.
If Miles got drafted in the first round I don't know why he would bypass it even if it meant he could season his game if he wasnt promised playing time. He would have to worry about going to class and taking tests (the real reason you goto college).. just take your millions now instead of later. The only reason I could see this being a viable option is if the lockout extends to the season. That way he could play for one year in college, and have a job waiting for him after his freshman year.
the NCAA rule applies to NCAA players who are in college already - high schoolers do not fall under that provision ... I think he may be thinking that there will be an age limit next year, so he will stay in and get into the first round (after all the Euros bail when they can't meet their buy outs) and then get drafted - play a year - and get a good deal ... of course, I think that is silly - but they may be what Dad is thinking
It's speculated that LaMarcus Aldridge's injury is part of the reason why CJ Miles will stay in the draft. For those unfamilar: LA was a fringe lottery pick but opted to goto college and had a freak injury to his hip. It's said that if a player were to have the same type of injury 10 years ago it would be career ending, but due to modern medicine he's expected to make a full recovery. It's still something that makes you step back and think about all your options if your CJ Miles. I remember seeing LA hobbling around campus like a cripple, it was really sad to see cause he was just beginning to string alot of great games together before he went down.
