This sucks!!! DUKE gots his second poem back from the POETRY class, IT was also a F. DAMN NATION! My profesor thinks he's so smart just because he never forgets to zip up his fly after doing NUMBER ONE. He wrote Lionel, I have asked you to consider more appropriate topics about which to write. Not only is this poem quite unoriginal, but the subject matter is again very offensive. You have failed both assignments and you will continue to fail unless you stop the vulgarity!" OK, fine, NO MORE VULGATY from DUKE in his poems. See what you think about DUKE's NUMBER THREE POEM? Running Waters When DUKE was just a little boy Around the age of eight He liked to have a dream each night Of rivers, streams, and lakes The water, how it flowed and surged! Raging currents gushed! DUKE would wake a happy boy Thinking of the water's rush But one night when DUKE dreamt his dream He awoke feeling sad instead The water had rushed and flowed, all right-- DUKE had wet his bed!!!! The sheets went in the hamper And the mattress turned on its back With the evidence tucked away DUKE would not be catched!!! DUKE never had his dream again Of rivers, lakes or streams In fact DUKE never woke up soaked again Well, until he turned thirteen. DUKE DUKE DUKE DUKE!! ------------------ A SNEEZE is nature's WAY of saying "ACHOOOOO!!!"
Ummm...Duke, who wrote that poem for you? There are no spelling mistakes. If that doesn't get you an A, nothing will ------------------ In order to be a success in life, you need 2 things: 1. Don't tell everything you know.
Duke, ever heard of "waxing poetic?" Wax is more poetic. ------------------ Proud Father of the Rockets' future point guard.
OK Lhutz, against my better judgment, I'm going to help you out. There's a famous poet named Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997). In fact, he's one of the most famous poets in recent history. Ginsberg's writing has actually been compared to Thoreau, Emerson and Whitman. Ginsberg was the author of an epic poem called Howl and America which are studied in numerous college literature classes. He wrote numerous other books and publications. Some of his favorite subjects dealt with war, including the Cold War, the Nazi death camps and Viet Nam. Ginsberg also advocated the use of illicit drugs (mar1juana was one of his favorites), and claimed that he wrote many of his best works while he was under the influence. What you might appreciate is that Ginsberg was also criticized for being crude and vulgar. In fact, many of his writings were considered controversial and even obscene. Lawrence Ferlinghetti, the owner of a book store, had public readings of the Howl, which resulted in his arrest on obscenity charges. People objected to his graphic sexual language and subjects such as narcotics and homosexuality. One of his most famous poems, America, pretty much insults everyone. Another book was criticized for it's overuse of a term used to describe part of the female anatomy -- 20 times in a single poem. I'm not a fan of this guy's work, but I think, considering your line of poetry, you might appreciate it. Also, it could be an author you could point to as an influence -- and an example of someone who was vulgar, and a very successful and revered poet.
