I watch both of them. I can't wait for the season premiere of Making The Band on April 13. Which do you think is better, Pop Stars or Making The Band? ------------------ North Star Minnesota Stadium Advocate
POPTARTS...mmmmmmmmm ------------------ Whatever you want to do, you have to do something else first.
I've seen some of the "Making the Band" on MTV. The one show I was watching they were given strict orders and lectured to behave like grown-ups at a New Year's Eve party where proven famous artists and the like were there. Jennifer Love Hewitt was there apparently, too(schwing). They were told by their manager(or whomever) to not do certain things which would hurt their image they are trying to project. So, what did they do? The opposite of everything they should have done. They behaved like a bunch of children boy band start-up wannabes. They were stage diving, drinking, goofing, and jumping around like morons. It was so funny watching them get chewed out by their manager afterwards and they had to be escorted out of there just after midnight for bad behavior. As the manager put it, the damage was done. They also got a write-up in the paper as the funniest red carpet entrance into the party, etc. . For guys who want to make it as the next boy band(I think their name is Mo-Town...what a joke of a name), they sure do not appear to give much of an effort given that their every move is recorded on TV. All they appear to get is chewed out for their mistakes. Will they ever learn? Another show had them choosing a boat outting versus being on time for rehearsals. They got another butt chewing for that one as they were about 2 hours late. The show is pretty funny to watch but it does show the struggles a young, immature male faces when he must grow-up, shun all friends, family, and girlfriends to put the time and effort into making it big after signing away 5 years of his life in a recording contract. These guys are being asked to grow up, be responsible, and be dedicated. They seem to be failing alot early on as they want to just be immature with that "What the f#*k?" attitude. But, I have to ask? Do we really need another boy band to appease the little girls with N Sync and Backstreet Boys out there? I don't think so. How many damn songs do we need that start off like "Girl...." with guys doing some synchronized hand movements? Maybe they can tour schools and play the gym. I seem to recall lots of bands when I was in middle school who would tour and play the local gym during school hours. In retrospect, that was pretty damn hilarious. Surf ------------------
The name of the group on Making The Band is O-town. I love their song, "Liquid Dreams", because it is a little explicit. The girls on Pop Stars or Eden's Crush are hot. I love their song, "Get Over Yourself". ------------------ North Star Minnesota Stadium Advocate
Man, I HATE those shows!!! Here's why... First, off, THEY ARE NOT A BAND!!! Bands have real musicians who actually play instruments. They are singing groups where how they look is more important than how they sound. Take ANY four singers (or 1 or 2 or whatever) and plug them into that situation and you get exactly the same thing. Second, this manufacturing of singers is the same thing that brought us Frankie Avalon, Fabian, Pat Boone, New Kids on the Block and all the crap that so many of us complain about. What a complete and total waste of time. ------------------ fArt don't pay the rent.

O-Town is just a stoopit band. N'sync is bad, but they sound like Sinatra compared to O-town. I've seen the show once or twice, and it seems the boys just like to be in front of the camera and love to cause trouble. BTW Jeff, I don't know why I would know this, but I think the New Kids were from the Boston area and were most likely friends before. ------------------ "Hey Snoop Dog, I got my bi-yatch to make you some muffins."
I hate the whole pop genre of music. In my opinion, if part of the prerequisete of playing music in the "pop" genre is having good looks, then that is not a music genre! It is something else entirely, I will leave it up to everyone else to decide. They don't write their own music (most of the time), they can't play instruments, and half of their appeal to their "audience" is their looks, male or female. I am sick of it and I hate the fact that these people are treated like kings when their are real artists who are struggling to succeed playing there own music on actual instruments that they learned to play. The Spice Girls wrote their own songs. Christina Aguilera co-wrote Come On Over Baby. Take That wrote their own songs. Didn't teen pop kill grunge music? ------------------ North Star Minnesota Stadium Advocate
"Liquid Dreams" is a disgustingly, insipid self-parody. Doesn't even make sense... just a bunch of one-liners meant to compel teeny-boppers to buy the entire musically-wretched album. My roommate actually bought the album for a project-he's using "boy bands" as a subject for his marketing class concerning "how to package an inferior product to sell well." He's comparing the Boy Bands to AOL. ------------------ Boston College - Big East -East Division Regular Season Champs Worst to First in 2001!
