Keeping track of criminals and punishment isn't one of my interests...but I read this today and it deeply saddened me. What do you guys think? Of course this little girl lost her life, but this 14 year old kid also lost his, in jail for LIFE!? No chance for parole, no chance for nothing? Do you really think this sentence will stand? http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/nm/20010309/ts/crime_boy_dc_6.html ------------------ Whatever you want to do, you have to do something else first.
Thats way to harsh on someone that young. GO FT.LAUDERDALE MY HOMETOWN! ------------------ "Break off the block like Maurice Green" --- Steve Francis President of the Moochie Norris fan club.
This has actually been a big topic here today at work... Aparently it is Florida law that anyone given that conviction automatically receives that sentence... So in that light, I do not believe an exception should be made at this level . On the other hand, the word I heard is that BOTH sides (including the prosecuting attorney) are working to get the governer to soften the conviction. But that's what it will take, a higher authority... I feel horrible for both families.... This is just a bad situation... ------------------ "There are three kinds of lies: Lies, Damned Lies, and STATISTICS..." - Mark Twain -
The kid was 12 when he did it. HOW IS TWELVE YEARS CONSIDERED AN ADULT AGE?????? I thought 18 was the age of adulthood. I hate the selectivness of trials. A 12 year old is not an adult. A 17 year and 363 day old is NOT AN ADULT! THE KID IS 14! This is outragous and sickening. Yes, it was a horrible crime, but there still has to be a chance to help this CHILD. ------------------ I'm the most positive Rocket fan in the world.
I saw on a tv show that everyone involved in the case is looking towards the governor to change the sentence. Even in the prosecutor of the case thinks the sentence is too much. I'm pretty sure the kid will get a lesser sentence. I just saw it in the article. Later on... So I doubt the sentence is going to stay as it is. ------------------ "If a traveler does not meet with one who is his better, or his equal, let him firmly keep to his solitary journey; there is no companionship with a fool." I heard the kid and his lawyers rejected a plea bargain that would have had him serve ZERO jail time. OOOOPPPSSS !!! Comes to mind. DaDakota ------------------ Go Jazz * http://bbs.clutchcity.net/ubb/Forum3/HTML/011403.html
I can understand why they turned down the plea bargain. If he pleads to 2nd degree murder, for the rest of his life, that will haunt him. It was fair though, so that was mistake on his families part. If I'm not mistake the kid was black and the girl he accidentaly killed was white. Sounds like racism to me. Whether there was racism involved here or not, there will no doubt be massive protest by black activists groups, with just cause may I add. Speaking of child killers, did anybody hear about how those 2 child killers in England were released? I wasn't familiar with the story, but they abducted a 2 year old from a mall, bludgeoned him with bricks, put paint in his eyes, and left him on the train track to be cut in two. I think it's horrible that these two have been let out after only 8 years, at the age of 18. The thing that pisses me off is that the government put them in a protection program to hide their identities. That's not right. Here, when a former sex offender moves into your neighborhood, you are notified of it, but these two deserve special treatment? ------------------ [This message has been edited by tacoma park legend (edited March 09, 2001).]
The articles I read said the plea included three years in a juvenille facility followed by years of counseling and probation (instead of zero jail time. The thought, being, I guess, that the jury wouldn't be willing to convict a 14 year-old developmentally disabled kid on 1st Degree Murder charges). ------------------ Houston Sports Board The Anti-Bud Adams Page
I believe the girl was also black so I don't think that is an issue. ------------------ fArt don't pay the rent.
