good info, unfortunately i don't believe interns get paid, and don't know about you, but my bills just don't pay themselves these days
I'm an intern/graduate assistant for a Division I-A program and I don't get paid. Of course I just started and don't do much Sounds like if you want to work in sports, you gotta start at the bottom.
Just don't show them your sig... they may think you're incompetent : Memphis will still finish ahead of the Rockets in 2004-05.... We are going to catch you guys
Thanks Tyree. I will be graduating UT pretty soon (hopefully ) with a Sports Managment degree which requires a semester internship. Working for the Rockets is my #1 choice and this info really helps out a lot.
Here is what you might have to do as an intern: When I was in radio we did a contest at a Rockets halftime where we dropped parachutes from the rafters of the Summit and some listener (three actually) had to try and catch the parachute in a grocery cart. My job was to make, test and drop the parachutes. I used a Z-107.5 handkerchief, kite string and Z-107.5 keychains. The key was to figure out how many keychains were necessary in order for the parachutes to fall at the "right" speed (not too fast or too slow). So I made serveral versions of different weights and we went to the Summit to try them out one day. The marketing guy that we were working with took me and an intern up to the rafters (my boss was going to watch me drop the parachutes and tell me which one was best from the ground). The marketing guy opened the door to were you walk out onto the catwalk way up at the roof of the Summit but would not go any farther. He made the intern escort me out onto the catwalks because he was afraid of heights. Pretty funny. I thought it was pretty cool and I'm afraid of heights (actually I'm not so much afraid of heights as I'm afraid of falling). The intern was scared as well and wedged himself next to a big support beam so he wouldn't have to look down (the calwalk was just grating so you could see right through it). Come game time when we actually did the promotion, once again the intern was made to escort me out over the catwalk but this time a building engineer (I think) came out with us as it was the second quarter of a Rockets game. I'm sure he was there to make sure nothing was dropped onto anyones head. It was very cool to watch most of a quarter from way up there. So, if you get the job as an intern you might have to walk out on the rafters to escort some radio promotions guy.
Wow from what I'm gathering about employment with the Rox: some don't get paid, others get paid crappy, and others get a punch in the face. Nice gigs.
from what i've researched about the rocket internships some are paid internships, but they are at minimum wage (what is that 5.15/hr in texas?) others are unpaid/college hour credit internships it depends on which one you apply for and get accepted for really.
Well i know for a fact that the Astros dont pay thier inters so i doubt the Rockets do either. Why would they. there are so many people many on this site (including myslef) that would love an opportunity to have a part time internship with the Rockets...even if it doesnt pay.
