When booting, pc won't get past the mem test. I assumed one of the dimms was bad, but removing and testing yields no luck.

Could all dimms have gone bad? Or does this sound like a fried board?

    Thanks.

Just the normal single beep. Then nothing.

Can you access the BIOS? Does it see your memory?

Can't get into the BIOS. Locks up too soon, apparently

Have you tried removing all of the memory then turning the pc on to see what it does?

    Just for fun...
Actually to see if it will hang up in the same place or show you something else. :p

If the pc doesnt even get to the BIOS there is not much else to try.

    Oh...well...try this, then:

1.) Drop a heated soldering iron in there and shake your PC at the same time.
2.) Drop your PC a few times...first from a foot...then from a two foot height.
3.) Remove your CPU, blow on it, and re-seat it.
    4.) Pull on the wires.
5.) Re-seat the cards with the power on to the motherboard.
6.) Put on socks and sneakers, moonwalk on the carpet a few times, and then touch the circuitry before touching any metal.

This is just all part of the fun process of troubleshooting. :p

Then, go to newegg and buy some new components.

I don't know that much about computers, but I did build a few and have solved quite a few problems. My roommate's computer did the exact same thing. He downloaded this file on Ares and it turned out to be a virus which messed up his HD. If you have an extra HD lying around, I would put it in and see what would happen.

Sounds to me like your motherboard wants a certain type of memory in a certain type of configuration and it's not getting it. Is this a new computer? Make sure that you have the right kind of memory and the right kind of configuration (sometimes motherboards want memory only in pairs, sometimes they only want one, etc.)

Im assuming the computer ws working previously, and now it isnt?

what (if anything) did you do with it before this happened?

first thing....find the BIOS reset jumper....and clear your cmos...see if you can access the BIOS after doing that.

we will go from there once you try that.

    Gotem

if he isnt getting past the mem test part of the boot process...the HD isnt even being accessed yet....just a little fyi for ya... ;)

It looked pretty apparent that my board was gone, prob the memory bus.

So I have a new machine and all was going well until I tried to install my Western Digital SATA RAID. System just sits on it during boot up.

    Any ideas? Thanks!

    Nevermind.

Turned out that the new board has a SATA Raid, which would create the conflict.

    Thanks all!
