Yeah, this happened to me last year. I had just pulled out of the store parking lot, literally about 10 feet out of the driveway. A cop comes up behind me with lights on. As I pull over I very covertly put my seatbelt on. He comes up and says he pulled me over for not wearing a seatbelt, and at that moment I looked at the seatbelt fastened across my chest. He said something to the effect of "Don't try that crap with me" and I left it at that. I guess that also ticked him off because he said I looked familiar to him and wanted to know if we had crossed paths before. Jerk.
wear your damn seatbelt! it's not that hard I feel almost naked driving w/o a seatbelt..I'm so damn used to it
One thing that ticks me off about cops... Here in New York, it is illegal to drive and talk on the cell phone at the same time. My mom got pulled over for it once (she later had the ticket removed, but still), yet I ALWAYS see cops driving and talking on their cell phones. Happens to me about 2-4 times a week usually.
you think that's amazing. i got a ticket for no front license plate and wrong color turn signal (they said yellow wasn't working for them and it had to be amber).
Wow, that sucks dude. I purposefully don't wear my seatbelt and haven't for years and have yet (knock on... You know what... never mind. I don't want to jinx myself.
Why would you purposefully not wear your seat belt? Is it really that uncomfortable to you or do you just like to live on the edge?
I stopped doing it about 6 years ago b/c it was that uncomfortable. Now I'm more comfortable w/o it than with it. And to eliminate that dinging sound that the car gives off if you don't have it clicked in, one of my friends just clicked the seatbelt in by going around the back of the seat. Now its in 24 hours a day, whether I'm in the car or not.
On the construction zones, do the fines double if there aren't any workers there? That has always perplexed me.
@#$%^$# HPD for not knowing where you live!!!! seriously you have every right to be mad. mad at yourself.
i agree seatbelts should be a choice, but i dont think my car insurance would agree. if texas made it optional, it would just be one more excuse for insurance companies to raise my already to high rate even higher.
I can't believe anyone would drive w/o their seatbelt just 'because'...if you get into any kind of accident over 20 mph you'll probably come out of it with some permanent facial disfigurement or broken ribs...if you're lucky(although airbags help somewhat). There is a reason it was pushed to be made illegal and the main proponent wasn't for more funds, it really saves lives...really.
While I agree that seatbelts should be by choice (but you should lose insurance money if you aren't wearing one), I find it surprising that so many people won't wear seatbelts. I remember a recent news story about 4 teenagers that got into an accident on the freeway with a truck. 2 of them walked away from the accident with minor injuries, while the other 2 were critically injured, and I believe 1 of them died. Guess what? The two that walked away from the accident were wearing a seatbelt. The other two were thrown from their seats into the front window shattering it and causing horrible injuries to themselves. It's such a small thing to do yet it does so much.
Ah, the city needs revenue since property taxes have been cut in Texas. And they're going to suck it out of whomever they can. Traffic fines are now, and have always been, more about generating cash than promoting safety. It's a racket, pure and simple. So, **** traffic cops, **** traffic courts, and **** the corrupt city officials who roll around squealing in our hard-earned money after they steal it from us under threat of imprisonment. **** them. ****ing **** them.
So does regular excercise. Even though I always wear my seatbelt, I understand the principal of those who don't feel it should be illegal. Goes to show that our society and government and laws are that of situational morality. We try to dictate morals all the time with our laws (negative and positive rights), and they'll be inconsistent too, but that's life.
Keep in mind that, while not all that likely, it is possible for a person not wearing a seatbelt to be thrown from a car in an accident and harm another, uninvolved bystander. To me, that is reason enough for it to be made a law. Now, the ridiculous strict enforcement some have mentioned here (getting tickets while sitting in your car on a ferry, etc) is definitely going overboard. But I have no problem with this law.
