Wait, there are Chinese terrorists?!! Where???? On a different note, that Persian beauty Rudi Bakhtair IS HOT! I thought I was the only one, thanks for the support
1. I seem to recall there being a big media to do a couple of years ago about a missing African-American child in Philadelphia. There was a fullblown news conference when the young man was returned home safely. 2. Also this is along the same lines as why the local news had intense coverage when there was a murder in West U a couple of years ago. Violent crime in one of the best neighborhoods in Houston is shockingly unusual. Similarly, missing children in rural Iowa is unusual. Unusual = ratings. Not saying that I agree with their decisions. Just saying I don't think race is the motivator.
back to the actual story of the missing girl..... rumors from her hometown (through people that live in her hometown and supposedly are friends of the family) say that she went with two guys she believed to be foreign exchange students from Norway (not too hard to believe since it is a Dutch country) leaving a club. friends say they told her not to go, but she didn't listen - very stupid. apparently, the guys took her and sold her to a local drug cartel as a sex slave to repay some debt; they'll keep her very drugged and apparently, this is a lot more common than you'd think. of course this is all heresay, but scary and very sad that this is a possibilty.
I thought about this thread tody because the houston media has been enamored with this story. But its like the opposite of the missing white female media darling. At least you have to say this goes both ways. This young girl stabbed someone to death in a gang fight with the infamous MS-13. They have been following this since she was arrested. link Gang member hopes testimony will remedy retribution By BRIAN ROGERS Copyright 2007 Houston Chronicle TOOLS Email Get section feed Print Subscribe NOW Comments Recommend RESOURCES MORE PHOTOS: Gang stabbing death trial Saying he fears for his life, a gang member said this morning that he hopes testifying against Ashley Benton in the slaying of an MS-13 gang leader will mean he can stop worrying about retribution from the rival gang. "Cartoon," a member of Montrose area gang Crazy Crew, said on the stand that he hopes his testimony – for the prosecution – will remedy any possible retribution against him and his family caused by Benton stabbing 14-year-old Gabriel Granillo. Benton was affiliated with the Montrose gang. Benton's attorneys have said she stabbed Granillo in self-defense in a gang fight. Prosecutors have said Granillo was running away from the fight. Defense attorney Kent Schaffer questioned the gang member about his shock when members of MS-13 arrived at Ervan Chew park in the middle of the afternoon on June 6, 2006. "Crazy Crew is a gang, but MS-13 is a real gang aren't they?" Schaffer asked. The gang member said he was scared and surprised as the rival gang ran through the park with baseball bats, bricks and machetes. He said he is still scared of the international gang. Through a long morning of questions, Schaffer confronted the gang member about 36 statements Cartoon told investigators about the day. The gang member testified that Granillo was holding a brick over his head trying to hit another gang member who ran behind Benton. He said Benton stabbed Granillo in the chest as he held the brick over his head. Other witnesses said Granillo had a bat in his hand. Benton, now 17, was certified to be tried as an adult and faces a sentence ranging from probation to a prison term of five years to life if convicted of murder. State District Judge Devon Anderson ordered that gang members' faces not be photographed or televised. Because of fear of retaliation for cooperating with authorities, prosecutors asked that proper names of gang members not be published.
I'm black; and If I hear about missing, dead or emotionally unstable people, even if they're white, or attractive, or well-to-do, I sympathize with their families and hope the situation gets resolved as favorably and quickly as possible. I don't have the time or energy for insights, emotions or opinions beyond that. Minority relatives of missing children are possibly entitled to complain about this, for some reason I bet they wouldn't.
Don't need to be, they're the safest people in the world. Ain't nobody risking jail time for cottage cheese thighs or female facial hair.
No he didn't Rodney king was totally out of line According to him Think Ruckus from the Boondocks Rocket River
Is this really about the media companies, or is actually saying something about the public - that as a whole they care more about a missing white woman then black woman???? I think it's really the latter.

no the point isn't to sympathize with the families, the point is that the extra coverage may actually help in finding them.

There are tons of white females that have gone missing and get no coverage at all either ... so what's the point. How do they decide who gets the coverage? Usually its money, sometimes its ratings because of the "story", sometimes it is the dilligence of family members pushing to get the story out there. There are plenty of white females that are missing and they get nada. Its not a race issue.
but it seems to be one of the criteria to make a "good" story. of course all white females aren't covered, that would be impossible.
