http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/lordsofdogtown/ A full feature film based on the Dogtown story! If you've seen and enjoyed Dogtown and Z-Boys, then you knew this was coming!! Lords of Dogtown!! I, for one, am very stoked about this release. While I am not a skater (I dabbled back in the 80's) I can't get enough of this California 70's skate vibe and I was entranced by Dogtown and Z-Boys. This new movie is going to kick butt! I've been seeing trailers on TV this weekend and I can't wait for summer 2005!!
written by Stacy Peralta! and directed Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen)... i grew up as a skater in elementary school. we formed our own "Bones Brigade", we took the identity of a Powell-Peralta skater and skated their decks... i was tony Hawk. loved dogtown and z-boys, cant wait for this one....
I used to draw the dogtown logo own my folders in junior high. I'm stoked that Gringo Skateboards reissued all the old Zorlac decks. http://www.gringoskateboards.com/products/decks.html. I want the Big Boys (one of the best punk bads ever) model:
I loved the documentary, but the previews for this movie looked a little cheesy IMO ~ all the actors looked like litte J Crew models.
the actor who plays tony Alva is a street kid from NYC. he was in Raising Victor Vargas. he is as anti J-crew as you can get
MR. MEOWGI: to this day, i refer to every "coincidence" as a "plate of shrimp." not too long ago, biscuit gave me a stack of about 40 old big boys fliers...the old 8.5X11" xerox-type from back in the early 80s. nice sig. d.
[MOVIE] Lords of Dogtown Trailer I absolutely loved Dogtown and Z-Boys. And I am stoked for this movie. It is directed by Catherine Hardwicke whose directorial debut was the movie Thirteen. Stacey Peralta wrote the screenplay so the story stays close to home as he directed Dogtown. From Yahoo! Movies
OPENS THIS FRIDAY!!!!! 06.03.05 I'm checking this out Saturday night. Anyone else gonna hit this movie this weekend? Yahoo link to photos of the premiere
Skate and Destroy! It doesn't even matter if you're a girl or a boy Skate and Create! Skating is great! Ambassador, by Ramblin. That was the quintessential skating video for me, personally.
I saw the movie last night and liked it a lot. I'm not sure if I would have liked it as much if I hadn't watched the documentary several times already. One strange thing is that Jeff Ho isn't mentioned in the movie at all. I'm guessing they couldn't come to terms about using his name or whatever. Several of the real Zboys and folks from dogtown make very small cameos in the movie. It was kind of cool to see that. Anyway I would think it is definitely worth watching, and would very interested to see what someone who hadn't also seen the documentary thought about the movie. Heath Ledger does a great job, as does Rebecca de Mornay in limited screen time. The zboy actors are all pretty good as well.
Jeff Ho didn't want his story to be in it. I read that the director pleaded with him mutliple times right up until they started shooting.
The documentary is really outstanding. It's been running on the Independent Film Channel a lot recently, probably coinciding with it's fictional counterpart. I'm not sure if I want to see the Lords of Dogtown movie, because I don't see how it can add anything to the documentary.
I loved the documentary and can't wait to see this movie. My older brothers were skaters in the same period and I grew up skating. When I was in first or second grade my brothers would take me to skate at the Texas Pipeline, which was a big cement feeder ditch to Braes Bayou. My oldest brother was at HSPVA at the time and made a documentary about this at the time. He must have been using one of the earliest generations of camcorders. Later my friends and I skated at the skate parks that sprung up and then at the closed down skate parks when they all went out of busineess. Good times.
